It's after sunset. A worn out black car pulls into the gravel driveway of a oak wood home. Rain carefully thudding on its roof. The home was surrounded by trees. The only thing keeping it from being completely isolated was the dirt road which lead downtown. Max reached over to grab a plastic bag from the passenger seat after killing the engine. She exited the car and quickly walked towards the front door with her other hand above her head, which consisted of her car keys and purse. She pushed her body against the door and shimmied her way inside, sighing in relief as it closed behind her.

"Please tell me they had wings this time."
a blonde girl said as she appeared from the kitchen. She wore green gloves that seemed to be covered in a brown soil. Her face monotone as she readied herself to be disappointed.

"You shall have your wings and you shall fly my lady." Max smiled and did a curtsy as she enacted a scene from a movie previously watched by the two girls.

"Yes!" The blond girl exclaimed clenching her fists causing sand from her gloves to spray into her eyes.

"Oh fvck. My eyes bro, help before I go blind." The blond girl laughed with her eyes sealed shut, tears staining her cheeks.

Max smiled and quickly put the takouts down on the tiny table adjacent to the sofa before making her way over to the girl. She grabbed her forearms and lead her into the kitchen.

"I take it our veggie patch is coming along well, huh, Caryn?" Max chuckled as she stopped before the sinc and proceeded to wet a cloth. She glanced over at the pot of soil and seed sachets on the counter that her best friend had so tirelessly spent her time on in the last few weeks.

"Dude, I swear it's ganna save us so much money. We're surrounded by all this nature, it's inspiring and plus it's a dream of mine to become self sufficient." Caryn babbled on as Max handed her the cloth to wipe her eyes.

Max laughed, "It'll save us money when one of us actually learns to cook and besides I doubt you could grow chicken wings in a pot of soil so maybe we should just stick to fast food."

Caryn opened her now red eyes and looked at Max who stood up against the sinc before her. She had a deadpanned look on her face and removed her gloves placing them on the sand littered countertop. Max looked amused at her friend and swung her arms over Caryn's shoulders giving her a kiss on the cheek while holding her in a one sided hug.

"Come on, let's eat. Your farming days are over." Max said before jumping from her position on Caryn and heading back to the plastic bag of food she had driven into town for. Caryn rolled her eyes and with a smug look on her face followed her best friend.

Three hours later the two girls lay sprawled out like starfish on the sofa, eyes stuck to the television even though neither of them were really following the program.

"Dude, I can totally do a maternity shoot right now." Caryn said rubbing her hand over her exposed bloated stomach as she glanced lazily at Max.

"I would totally paint that bro." Max said, her voice dragging from the tiredness that came with being full.

"Since when do you paint people." Caryn contorted her face into a confused look.
"No, since when do you paint anything that actually makes sense. All you paint are blobs and odd mixes of color that look like some foreign galaxies being swallowed by giant black voids and regurgitated back out in a mess that resembles my brain cells after eating too many chicken wings."

Max chuckled softly knowing that Caryn never understood what she portrayed in her work. Hell, no one that Max ever met has had the same eye that she had for I guess you could say art. Max would never call it art though, no one knew about her paintings except for her best friend, who she's known her whole life. To max the paintings were like a message, a communication no one could grasp without the description from its creator. It was something only max could understand and appreciate.

"You never had too many braincells anyway." Max laughed and her comment earned her a playful pillow shot from Caryn beside her.

"Well, you're not painting tonight. Tonight we're ganna go to first beach, I heard there's a bonfire."
Caryn said smugly at max knowing all too well that max was a wildchild and would never turn down anything remotely fun.

"Whoooooooo!" Max cheered jumping up onto the coach with a huge smile on her face she laughed and allowed herself to fall back into Caryn's arms who stood before her opposite the sofa.

The two laughed and squealed before Caryn tumbled onto the ground with Max on top in a heep of excited cheers.

About an hour later the girls excited the house. Both wore thick hoodies with stretchy tights and sneakers. The moonlight shone on the blonde and brunette as they walked to the end of thier dirt yard. The cool night air met Max's hair and found her ears which were so warmly covered. She was ready to walk down the dirt road when Caryn stopped her.

"Wait, if we walk straight through the woods this way we'll be right on the beach in no time. Besides, walked all the way around past town is ganna take forever." Caryn said looking over into the woods as if checking for any suspicious movement. Her hand held onto Max's jacket sleeve.

Max raised and eyebrow at her friend and too looked around for holy spirits." That's exactly why I have these." Max said while moving her hand around in her hoodies front pocket. Caryn glanced down and watched Max pull out two mini torches. A smile crept onto her face as she made eyecontact with a smug Max.

Two faint lights could be seen aimlessly flicking around between the trees. The dead silence of the night was pierced by the voices of two twenty year old girls.

"I can show you the wooooorld, take you wander by waaaaaander!" Max sang into the air dramatically as she stepped over branches and stubs on the dark moss covered floor.

"Aaaaargh!" Caryn screamed and appeared to run and spin around frantically.

"Over, side ways and under," Max sang, clearly unphased by her friend's yells behind her. "Through an endless diamond skyyyyyyyyyy!"

"Aaaaargh! It's killing meeeeeee!" Caryn yelled again making Max sigh and stop to turn towards her. When the light from Max's torch met Caryn's figure, she was jumping, waving her hands above her head. As if swatting away something.

"What's killing you ?" Max asked amused.

"The bugs!" Caryn replied frantic causing max to laugh at her.

Max then mimicked Caryn's weird moves and started to jump around and wave her arms above her head as well. Caryn didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

The girls continued through the woods, in thier own little world, not paying attention to their surroundings. Thier squeals and laughter filling the air enticing a pair of ears above them.

Like a vulture, the figure hovered over the girls in the trees above them. It was quiet and stealthy, waiting for the right moment to pounce. The pumping heart pulling at the creature's senses. Excited at the prospect of draining the two vessels that crossed his path.
