Max turned towards Caryn, she walked backwards with her hands in her hoodie pockets as her friend walked towards her.
"Maybe, we'll go to Bora Bora again." Max said raising her eyebrows."We've been there twice." Caryn said throwing her head back, sighing.
"I don't know. The nightlife there is just amazing." Max said smiling, thinking about the time they spent there.
"Max, we literally got here like a week ago." Caryn wined. "We should totally stay here at least another month, besides we don't have enough saved up to visit Rome yet."
"Aaahh Venice..." Max closed her eyes and inhaled lightly, thinking about the beautiful city she dreamed of seeing.
Just as she opened her eyes she caught Caryn's terrified stare. She stopped and raised a brow curiously at her best friend. "What ?" Max asked, more to herself than her friend. She noticed that it grew odly quiet. A shiver ran down the brunette's spine as she noticed Caryn's stare was directed behind her. Max slowly turned around, her breath almost completely leaving her body when her eyes landed on a perculiar man. He stood there in the dark, not moving a muscle. Just staring at them with sharp red eyes.
Max swallowed, suddenly feeling scared. She realized that Caryn was about five footsteps behind her. It was as if the wind had stopped, even time had come to a halt. Max was friendly, but she trusted her instinct and right now, it was telling her to run. "H-h hi." Max stuttered as she attempted to relief the anxiety she felt. She could hear Caryn inhale deeply behind her and that was enough to make Max wanna run back to her side.
Max fidgeted with the front of her hoodie. She lifted her foot to take a step back but just as it hit the floor the man's silhouete blurred and before she could comprehend that he was lunging straight at her, she felt a stinging sensation in the nape of her neck.
Max's eyes fluttered closed as she hit the floor. Caryn couldn't understand what her eyes witnessed. One second the stranger stood a few metres in front of them and the next, he was standing next to Max's body. As Caryn looked up at the man she noticed the blood on his mouth.
"Aaaaaaaargh!" She let out a piercing scream almost as sharp as the teeth sticking out from underneath his lips. The man directed his attention to the blonde after looking into the trees for a few seconds. Caryn watched him dissappear quickly and it appeared that he had sped away in astonishing speed. She fell to her knees, numb.
Caryn crawled over to Max, her eyes wide and frantic, tears streamed down her face as she tried to control her heartbeat. She was hiperventilating.
"M-m-m Max..." She stuttered lifting her friend into her lap, still trying to comprehend what had just happened. Then suddenly realization hit her and a hair raising screech left her lips. "Maaaax!" Caryn barely sobbed as she screamed for her best friend, locking her arms onto her limp body.
Toned russet arms snaked thier way around Caryn's trembling form and pulled her away from Max. If Caryn was paying any attention she would have noticed that there were now two shirtless men around them, but Caryn was so traumatised that all she could do was block everything out. She continued to scream and crumble into the strangers arms, the younger of the two men staring at her sympathetically. She shut her eyes as if the pain of seeing Max on the ground would subside, but the memory stuck freshly to her eyelids.
"Seth, get the girl, let's take them to Emily's place." Jacob said as he held onto Caryn. Seth stared at him without moving. The young kid not knowing what to do. "Damnit Seth, get the girl!" Jacob repeated, but before Seth could move Paul appeared and shoved passed him knocking his shoulder.
"We lost the leech. Bitch decided to jump down the fvcking cliff." Paul spoke harshly, he was livid still from the chase and visibly shaking as well as out of breath. Jacob nodded at Paul and lifted the now quiet Caryn into his arms walking towards Emily's Place with her frozen figure.
Seth looked at Paul, sad that the two girls were almost killed. He turned away from Paul's stern look and walked after Jacob. Paul carefully picked the unconscious girl up and jogged in the direction that his brother's had trotted.
*******
Paul POV.
I ran through the hoods. Swiftly swirving past every nearing tree. Sam and Jarrod hot on my heels. Only one thing in my vision, that damn leech. It was Seth's first night patrolling alone, ironically the bloodsucker chose this exact night to cross our borders. Ofcause me, being the only person who had close to Jack shit to do tonight seeing as I wasn't interested in that damn bonfire, was the first to get to the kid's aid. The others were too busy with thier imprints to realize something was up. Even Jacob was caught up with that leech girl.
*Renesme, was it? Argh fvck, what do I care. Never liked her, never will.*
Quite frankly, I don't like most people. I hate affection, it's not only gross but shows weakness and boy was half of these wolves pussies. Even Sam, heck he seemed tough as fvck, but hold a knife to Emily's throat and I swear you'd see that man cry.
*Pussy*
I'd be damned if that ever happened to me. Imprint? nope. I don't need someone on my ass 24/7, clinging to me like thier damn life depended on it. I'm not about to have myself a weakness, especially not another irrelevant being.
*I mean come on ? We never needed anyone else to live. We're all alive for fvck sake. You see how that love shit fvcks with your head ? No imprint is ganna tell me that I need to be with someone, not if I have a damn say.*
I halted in front of the cliff we boys usually occupy. I stared down at the leech as it hit the water. Frustrated not only by my earlier thoughts but also the fact that I didn't catch the damn thing. Would've loved to rip its head off.
I waited about three minutes before decided to head back to where those girls were. Sam and Jarrod split to Emily's, seeing as we weren't sure if Jacob and Seth had gotten the girls out of the woods yet. It was hard to communicate with them both because they weren't phased.
I'm pretty sure I caught a glimpse of one of the girls lying on the floor, probably got bitten. Sam had told Seth to stay with them. Not long after Jake phased and joined him. Seeing as his dumb ass was too late to catch up to the chase anyways. So he had to baby sit.
*ha! Rich.* I internally chuckled.
I morphed back to my human self and pulled on some shorts, I ran up to Jake and Seth and overheard Jacob saying, "Damnit Seth, get the girl!" Poor kid just stood there. I grew frustrated and shoved him out of the way making myself known. I noticed a girl in Jacobs arms, looked to be in shock. She just stood there staring at nothing while the other sweet scented girl lay in the dirt.
"We lost the leech. Bitch decided to jump down the fvcking cliff." I said, anger laced in my tone of voice, still anxious from the chase. Jake nodded at me and walked off with the blonde, probably to Emily's. I looked at Seth, he was clearly disturbed. Couldn't blame the kid, he's still young, the youngest actually. Just a pup, weak without his pack.
I gave him a stern look and he walked off after Jake. When he was no longer in sight I looked down to my feet at the lifeless girl that lay there. I could tell that she was breathing and by the pace of her heartbeat was still very much alive. I knew that no one really wanted to bring the girl with them, seeing as she was bitten. Not that anyone would just leave her here to die but we knew that if she did turn, we would have to kill her.
Ofcause me being the kill-it-type was happy to bring the girl back to base. I silently hoped she'd turn so I could at least kill something tonight, but my own thoughts made me feel sick. She had a life, a family. She didn't deserve to be caught up in all this. Even if I hate to admit it, I do hope both girls end up being okay.
I carefully picked her up in an arm carry. I noticed how soft she felt in my arms, her sweet scent invading my senses. I couldn't quite place the feeling I felt with her in my arms, it was almost as if... fvck, what am I thinking. I shook the feeling off and took off towards Emily's place.
