When everyone you thought you knew
Deserts your fight, I'll go with you
You're facing down a dark hall
I'll grab my light

And go with you.

When his older brother, Park Jimin, came home from school one day, not by himself for once but with a friend, Jungkook knew things were going to change.

It felt like a cruel twist of fate. Jungkook was at the mercy of the universe, and whether or not Kim Taehyung was allowed into their lives would alter absolutely everything. Jungkook simply knew it, a feeling held deep in his gut. And he was right.

He knew he was right when the tall boy who smelled of sunflowers and thunderstorms during summer came home with Jimin the next day, and the day after that.

There was an odd feeling to Taehyung. Jungkook felt drawn to him, as if he were a map leading the younger to treasure. Taehyung was going to be someone important to Jungkook, he just knew it.

Once seasons began changing and time passed, it became impossible to tell when exactly Taehyung had joined as part of their mundane lives. The transition felt seamless and blurred, as if he had always been there from the start.

And Jimin and Taehyung quickly became the best of friends at the start of their middle school years.

Jungkook had never experienced a time so eventful in his life until Taehyung came along. He and Jimin were complete troublemakers, always somewhere doing something against the rules and making each other look as stupid as possible.

The younger brother never really missed Jimin until he was whisked away from him. Jungkook doesn't mind Taehyung at all, he gets along with him fine. He just wished Jimin wouldn't leave him behind so often.

He understands though, that because he's two years younger than the both of them he doesn't exactly fit in. It's fine, he tells himself. It's fine to be lonely.

Later in the year that Jimin and Taehyung met, Jungkook found himself growing agonizingly bored.

Though he was friends with kids in his elementary year, he wasn't particularly close with anyone enough to be best friends or play with them. Life was boring.

His brother left him.

So Jungkook decided to take him back.

It's not like he had anything important to do, so each day after school the small buck-toothed boy would run over to his brother's middle school and seek him out.

He followed him and Taehyung to scout where they were going. Usually they went to places like the park or a convinience store. Jungkook loved going on these stealthy adventures, because even if he didn't feel loved, at least he felt like he was doing something cool, like a spy.

It didn't take long for him to be caught each time, however, and the first time he was spotted he grew incredibly nervous. Until Kim Taehyung grew a gianormous boxy grin across his face, and said to Jimin,

"Hey! Isn't that your little brother?"

Jimin only stood frozen, it was Jungkook who nodded helplessly, doe eyes wide and mouth agape.

"Well," Taehyung still had an expression of warmth and laughter on his face, pulling the younger in. Taehyung was joyous, and so, so happy. "Why don't you come with us, then?"

Jungkook remembered smiling so wide his cheeks hurt, a day so fun he could never forget. Taehyung's words still echo in his brain, and they will for many years to come.
