Trees reformed, amber in colour this time, like a crackling fire reaching powerfully for the sky. Sirius took the time turner from around himself and the girl. When Luna reached for it he pulled back. Her questioning look made him give a reason for his actions:
'I'll hang onto it. We don't want you losing it. Do we?'
'I wouldn't think of losing it. I may have lost things before, like my shoes and books... That was because of the Nargals.'
'Nargals? Moon frogs? I'm seeing a recurring theme here. Which year are you from anyway? It can't be that far ahead.' Sirius pocketed the Time Turner in hope Luna wouldn't notice as she replied with:
'1997' They both began walking through the grounds to the castle, one in hope that this was the correct year, the other in hope of an opportunity for betrayal.
'Woah. seriously? You certainly don't look like it. I'm much more well-dressed than you, love.'
'Are you always this self-assured?'
'Of course. Sirius Black's biggest fan is himself after all. There's nothing wrong with appreciating my good looks and charm. Everyone does. Even you.' Luna stopped for a moment. She didn't know until that moment that he was the Sirius Black. She'd heard Harry talk of him often, each time telling her of lovely things.
'I'm flattered that you think I do. I'm sure if I was interested in romance I would. As of yet I'm not though. Maybe you'll have to keep trying.' Luna said, offering an honest, apologetic smile.
'Is that a challenge?' The blonde laughed immediately after he'd said this, acknowledging how headstrong he was.
'If you like.'
'Well, on second thought I'd rather not accept that. I've got enough fangirls as it is. It's a hard task keeping them at bay. I'll let you know when there's a free place in my army of minions. Can't promise anything though.'
'You treat girls like toys, don't you? Are you compensating for something?'
'No, of course not. Why do I get the feeling you can see right through me? It's rather uncanny.' Luna didn't reply, she instead began walking out of the forest. It didn't take Sirius long to catch up with her.
The grounds in autumn were breathtakingly picturesque. A pallet of rich pumpkin oranges, yellows and deep brown. Each colour vibrant in it's own way. The air, crisp and exhilarating flowed and tumbled gently around. The whole aura of autumn refreshed and cleansed Luna considerably. Sirius felt it too.
They had soon crossed the bridge and were now entering the courtyard. Hogwarts students from assorted houses we're sitting on the stone tiles or benches talking and studying. Plants grew from the cracks in the pavement and walls, some more unfathomable than others. Luna followed the vines before realising another was staring at her. It was a girl with tamed deep black hair and a set of hazel eyes to compliment her tanned skin colour. She wasn't, in fact, actually staring at Luna, she was eyeing Sirius. He wolf whistled at her and she giggled.
'I'm going to find out what year it is. I'll see you in the great hall.' Luna said after noticing what was occurring.
'Yeah. Right. Good idea.' Luna felt extremely sorry for the girl, who was probably about to get her heart broken; though she knew better than to get involved in that kind of thing as she didn't really comprehend it herself. Luna understood love in families of course. Her mother taught her how important it was, but having never been in 'love' herself meant she was unsure of it. So as she weaved her way past an abundance of students she couldn't help but wonder.
She was about to enter the great hall when she came into contact with another. 'Sorry but we're not permitting freaks in here today. You'll need a permit.' said the girl, standing in the way obstinately. Luna was struck with a wave of familiarity as she observed her hair, black and sticking out in every direction and her disposition, regal and pretentious with a tint of madness.
