EIGHT: BATTLE

THE MEN HAD EVENTUALLY FORGIVEN THE WOMEN for running off and leaving them behind. The battle was upon them. Within the first five minutes, Helena had managed to knock Emily unconcious. She finally gained consciousness and got up.

Emily jumped to the side shooting her last arrow. She found herself looking around for Faraday. With no luck, she turned towards the nearest building to climb up to the roof. Red Harvest had just run out of arrows. His sister, Gold Sunset, had jumped off a ledge into a hay bale.

She looked around for Evangeline, Edeline, and Evelyn. Evelyn was shooting Bogue's men, back to back with Vasquez. Evangeline was with Billy and Goodnight sniping the enemy.

Edeline was nowhere to be found. Emily realized she was most likely with Sam or Jack, who were both like fathers to Edeline.

Emily decided to focus her energy on conserving bullets that she would most likely give to others and using her combat skills. Emily nodded towards Red Harvest, who ran and jumped to another roof.

And she continued to fight. She ran towards her horse and mounted it before riding off towards the Gatling Gun. She shot several rounds towards the men. She was pursued by Bogue's men who were eventually all shot down by Goodnight, Billy, and Evangeline. The gun was aimed for the steeple and shots rang out.

Emily knew her friends were now dead. Maybe even her husband, her sisters, her daughter...

Emily didn't even want to think about it. Joshua rode towards the Gun as Emily rode back towards the town and shot several men as she watched the Gun blow up. Her heart sank until saw Evelyn riding towards her with Joshua on the saddle. She slowed her horse and helped Joshua down. He was bleeding badly.

"Are you alright?" She saw Helena turning around the corner chasing a crawling Isla. "Hold that thought." She chases after Helena on her horse. Helena heard her coming and turned to shoot her, but Emily was faster.

She shot her sister's forehead. Helena crumpled to the ground. Isla collapsed in relief as Fallon rounded the corner. Fallon helped Isla up and supported her to walk.

"Bogue is dead." Fallon announced. Emily let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Emily led her horse to a nearby building and walked over to Joshua and embraced him. Vasquez and Edeline walked with Teddy and Ellie, who was leading a horse with Jack on it. Gold Sunset was dead as were Delia, Kira, Goodnight, Evangeline, and Billy. Red Harvest and Evelyn mounted their horses. Sam nodded towards Emma and Teddy. Ellie let go of the reigns and handed them to Teddy.

"Mama, I'm staying here with Teddy. I hope you understand."

Emily nodded. "I do. I love you." She embraced her daughter. Ellie pulled away and went to stand by her husband. Sam and Vasquez mounted their horses. Vasquez pulled Edeline up behind him. Fallon helped Joshua up onto his horse.

Isla was helped onto her horse by Emily. Then, Emily and Fallon mounted their horses as Sam began riding out of town. That was the last time Emily would see Rose Creek or her daughter.
