A crowd of children followed the trio.Aware of their prey's tactics, they broke into three groups, with the largest pursuing Uni.
Leading them on a chase through the back streets of their small town, Uni climbed over a high stone wall and hid behind it, slithering along on her stomach, pushing with her feet until she was behind and under low bushes against the wall.
Many children by-passed her before a group of boys returned. Two of them jumped the wall and raced around between ancient tall headstones, seeking their quarry. Exiting at the far end of the cemetery, they ran down the road leading to Uni's home.
The bushes rustled and Uni knew someone was on the other side...
Holding her breath, she squeezed her eyes shut and prayed...
"Bee!" a boy called, raising his hands in the air, then ran from it. The other boy dropped on all fours, looking beneath the foliage of the bush.
"She's in here!" he said with excitement. Standing, he would have shouted for others to come when the bee dropped to almost land on his nose. "Arrgh!" He backed away, flailing his hands by his face, then raising his arms to wave them wildly. The bee rose out of reach before dropping back into his vision. Turning, he ran.
Uni took her chance and crawled in the opposite direction from the boys. She made it all the way out of the bushes and rose up to run behind a tombstone.
The bee hovered between the boys and her.
"She's got that bee on her side," the shorter boy called.
"We'll go for reinforcements."
Uni realized that the two fleeing boys were the only ones in the cemetery other than herself. She bolted along a row of lawn between the graves, all the way to the edge of the forest.
Catching her breath there, she saw the bee, not far from her. Laughing, she said, "Well, thank you, Mister Bumblebee. You rescued me. Goodbye."
'Mister Bumblebee' followed Uni but she was unaware of it as she wended her way through the trees, all the way to the cave.
