Austin was frozen in place as he stared at his sister lying motionless on the floor. His vision became blurry as tears began streaming down his cheeks. He started moving toward his sister to get a closer look all her terrified that he had just cost his sisters life. Shaking and trembling, he took Jenna into his arms letting her sit on his lap as he hugged her. Her head was resting on her big brothers shoulder as he laid his on her letting all the tears run down rocking back and forth.
A few short seconds passed before he laid his sister on his bed. He kneeled before her to pray, something he hadn’t done in many years. “God, if you're really out there and can hear me can you tell me why? Why did you let Jenna into this path? She should have never been involved in saving me. This was for only me and Alan to handle. My Prince and I, not my little sister. She should have never… she shouldn’t be here with me. OR was this all part of your plan? You really hate people like me and Alan that you have to torture us like this? We were almost free…” Tears continued to run down his face as he continued.
“We were so close.” He cried. “We were so DAMN CLOSE!” He began shaking as anger began to flow through his veins. He stood up to let the rage out of him. His books flew across the room, his sowing kit broken into pieces, letters from Alan torn apart, and his paintings splattered red from his fist hitting his wall repeatedly.
“Aust.” Said Jenna with a weak voice. Austin had been hitting himself against the door but the sound of her voice made him stop. He tuned to see her looking back at him with slightly open eyes lying still from the bed. “Aust, please stop.”
Tears rolled down his face once again. “You’re alive. Jen I thought I lost you to him.” He fell on his knees covering his eyes apologizing over and over to Jen. “I was so stupid for letting this happen to you Jen. I’ve failed you and let you get hurt. He could have almost killed you. This should have never happened. Jenna I’m so sorry.”
“Austin it’s not your fault but mine for not being observant and noticing that da- ah! Austin! Austin, it hurts!” Jenna felt pain go through her spin to her neck then to her head over and over. Austin was quick to rise and go to her side. He became frantic trying to figure out what was causing her pain.
“My neck. Father, he grabbed me by my head lifting me up before throwing me down back words. I hit the stairs when I fell back but the pain hurt when I moved. Austin, make it stop!” The pain was overwhelming for her. When she cried for Austin’s help he made himself calm down to think of what to do.
He thought back to his health class he took when he was 11. With a quick jolt of memory, he sprang into action grabbing the yarn and tor off foam from his wooden stool cover. He wrapped it over Jen’s neck to keep it in place.
“You just need to not move a lot okay Jen? If you are still and just lie here you’ll be fine and it won’t hurt okay?” he said securing her home made neck brace. Though she couldn’t nod her head she replied with a yes. Austin smiled placing a kiss on her head and instantaneously a familiar chirping of a bird came poking its head into the tower. His head turned up at the little open hole to see Pascal coming in.
Austin stood up saying “Please Pascal I don’t have any food to give you but please be considerate and just let me read the letter I must see what Alan said.” Pascal understood flying down to the bed Jenna lied on. Jenna on the other hand was a little confused.
“Did you just talk to a bird…and it understands you?”
Austin chuckled wiping his tears from his face before taking the note off of Pascal. “Yes I did and his name is Pascal. It’s Alan’s and I’s child.”
Jenna was confused out of her mind. ‘Pascal, Alan, child’ she thought ‘Who the hell are they and why he is saying a bird is his child?’ She glanced up at her brother to see him reading a letter. His expression a few seconds ago was with a smile as if what had just happened never occured but just by looking into his eyes she could see a broken heart.
“Aust, Aust what’s wrong?” She asked worried.
He looked at his sister and handed her the letter. Once she grabbed it, he fell down alongside the bed placing his arms on his knees and his hands covering his face. “They took him Jenna. They took Alan.”
She looked at the letter and began to read…
