Austin P.O.V.

My eyes burned as tears trickled down my cheeks. I've been treading through the forest for what seems like eternity but has only been a few minutes. The voices of my people were a sharp pain in my heart. It had felt as if an arrow was just digging deeper and deeper into my chest.

Nothing could bring me to smile, not even knowing I was outside the walls. I was free. But none of that mattered.

The pain kept sweeping in to where I couldn't walk. I began coughing as I laid my hand against a tree. My body began to shake, becoming weak. My legs finally gave out and I found myself on the floor on my hands and knees.

“I’ve failed. I’m a pathetic weakling.” I rested my body against the tree dragging my knees to my chest as my arms hugged me.

He was right there. I had a sword, I could… no I should have killed him right then and there. Not run like a coward and end up killing a man.

“Now, now.” My head snapped up looking to where the voice came from. I saw nothing.

“Hello?”

“Nothing is accomplished with tears.”

I slightly let go of myself trying to scan around for the person but there was nothing, just a forest. “Who’s there?”

Laughter. “I’m the ‘who’ when you call ‘who’s there?’, the wind blowing through your hair.” A gush of wind went sending leaves on the ground twirl in circles and up to my face blocking my view for a second.

When I regained my vision to look back out to the voice something startled me.  “Oh hell!” A man with black hair and a striped black and green suit was in front of me with his back bent over with his face only inches away from mine.

“Hello Austin.” He smiled wide with large green eyes turning his head to the side as his body slithered to the side so it was to the side of me. “Seems like you got yourself into some trouble, am I right?” His head spun in a full 360 circle as his body slowly disappeared.

What in the world is this?  My heart was pumping a fast rate as I stared at him. His head...his body...this isn't real.

I was mute, to petrified to speak. “ah-I- What-” His face quickly disappeared as he spoke again.

“You don’t remember me do you Austin?” I looked up to see the man now on a branch playing with a tail? The hell?

“No I don’t and what in the devils creation are you?” I slowly began to rise from my sitting position to stand and face this thing, my face now sticky from my dry tears. The man was creepy as hell and not to say my heart was racing quicker than ever.

“Now Austin is that any way to speak to me? Especially not what just happened back at the kingdom? Killing a man like that. Tisk. How low of you. What would Alan say?”

What the hell? Hiw does he know this? What if this is a trick? He has to be working with my father to know this kind of stuff. He’s tricking me. That’s what it is. Sooner or later he’s going to kill me and eat my flesh! “Shut up. Why are you here? Are you working for my father? How do you even know this? You have no right to know or talk about such things.” I slither holding my fists tightened as my teeth grinded against each other slightly worried. “I’ve never even seen you in my life so you have no right to speak those words.”

“Oh I don’t?” He appeared floating in air on his back circling me with his devilish smile again.

“Stop that.” I said angry and frightened to this new exposure of witchcraft.
