“I’ve got something to tell you” she grabbed my hand and pulled me to the side, away from the conversation I was having.

“What the hell, I was busy, can’t you see?” I scolded her, pulling myself out of her grasp. Who the hell did she think she was?

“Jakey, I told you, I’ve got something to tell you.” Her tone was serious and I could see she was fighting back tears. What the hell? She never cries.

“What’s wrong, can’t this wait?” I asked, impatiently, tapping my foot at the same time.

“Stop with the tapping!” she growled and I obeyed. Alright, she was serious.

I sighed. “What’s wrong? Surely it can’t be that bad?”

        “It can.” She muttered.

        “What’s wrong, then? Tell me!”

She took a deep breath and placed a hand on her stomach.

        “I’m pregnant.”

“Jacob...Jacob…” someone shook me. “Jacob Hammond, you open those damn eyes right now!” I was dreaming. Surely, I was dreaming.

“Go away” I mumbled. My voice was hoarse. “If you’re not real, I don’t want to know.”

“Well,” the voice spoke again, “It’s a damn good job I am real, then ain’t it.” They shook me once more.

My eyes snapped open. “W-what?” I mumbled, looking around the room and my eyes locked on hers. Her one brown eye and one green eye shone at me as she smiled.

“It’s so good to have you back.”

“Oh, God. I’m dreaming.” A tear escaped I looked away from her, not wanting to prolong the agony.

“Jakey, you’re not dreaming. Honestly.” Her hand touched my cheek and I raised mine to rest it on hers. I could feel her hand against mine, I could feel each finger and each nail. Was she really there?

        “Jas?” I mumbled. “How?”

        “Ssh, ssh. I’m fine. Honestly.”

I turned my face towards her, “I missed you.” I whispered into her hand.

        “I missed you too.”

The door opened and Nick walked in. “Hey, Jake, I see you’re awake.” He beamed. “How are you feeling?”

“Yeah.” I mumbled, my eyes not once leaving Jas’s. “What happened?” I asked, bemused.

I noticed a look between them and I repeated my question.

“Jake, it was Dave.” Jas said with her voice barely a whisper.

“No.” I shook my head. “It can’t be. What about Tony?” I was confused. Everything led to Tony being the head of it all.

“Yeah, he was in on it too. But he… Alex sh… Tony died. He tried to… Look, we’ll tell you this another time, all you need to know is that Tony died, Alex is in intensive care and Danny… Danny’s great.” A smile plastered on her face as she mentioned his name.

"What about Ellie?" She hadn't mentioned Ellie.

She chuckled. "Always worrying about everyone else. Ellie's doing great, Jake. She's even been able to go back to school."

I sighed in relief “How long?” I asked and she looked at me, bewildered. “How long has it been?”

“Since?” she gestured for me to continue.

“Where am I?” I looked around the room.

“It’s been 5 weeks. You’re in hospital.” She grabbed hold of my hand and squeezed it tight.

“When did you get out?” I asked her. How long had she been at my bedside?

She lowered her head. “They found me a week ago.”

“Jas, I’m sorry” I choked on my tears. “I failed you” I sobbed.

“Hey, no you didn’t. If you hadn’t have left the station that day telling everyone where you were going, they wouldn’t have found us. They caught up with Dave 8 days ago and the they found us. Please don’t blame yourself. I shouldn’t have gone off like that in the first place. If it’s anyone’s fault, it’s mine, Jake.”

Dave. I didn’t know whether to believe it was Dave or not. Had he admitted it? Had he confessed to all of that? And if so, why? I didn’t understand. Wait, I told everyone where I was going? I don’t remember that.

“Stop damn thinking, Jake. You think about work too much. Concentrate on getting better now. None of this is your fault and it’s been solved now, so don’t worry about it. We’ve just got to get you better.”

I smiled and drifted off into a deep slumber.

        Jas’s POV

“When are you going to tell him?” Nick asked, watching me from the other side of the room.

I shook my head. “I don’t know. He doesn’t need this. He’s already worrying. I can see it in his face. He’s like this with every case we have, he always worries that we’ve got the wrong person. He’s just a worrier.”

I stood up from the chair I was sat in and walked out the room with Nick following me. “I’m going to head to the station, I’ve got some paperwork to do. Will you be okay?”

I nodded. “Yeah, our parents will be here in a bit. Apparently Jake couldn’t keep his gob shut while I was gone, so naturally they’re worried.” I chuckled.

“He tried, you know. He kept it from them for eleven whole weeks before he told them. He just couldn’t keep it in any longer. It was killing him inside.”

I nodded. “ I know.” I whispered. “Alright, you get off, I’ll be here when you get back.” He gave me a weak smile and left.

I sat outside Jake’s room, watching him through the window. I was so glad he was okay. It was so nice to hear his voice and see his face again after all this time. I sighed and slumped back in my seat. My hand automatically placed on my stomach and I traced the letter B. It was a subconscious thing now. I couldn’t stop myself from doing it.

“Hey Jasmine!” I heard my mum shout my name and I rolled my eyes. I’d missed her, but did she have to be so damn loud?

“Hey, mum” I stood up and gave her a hug. Then followed with the rest of our families, my dad, Jake’s parents and then my cousin.

“Hey, Jas, I’m so glad you’re okay.” He whispered as he hugged me tight.

        “Thanks, James. I missed you.”
