Jas’s POV
I opened my eyes and yet again, my head throbbed and I didn’t recognise anything about where I was. Somehow, this was becoming a regular occurrence. This time, I was in a room with a window. Small, but at least there was one. And this one had a proper bed too, with blue blankets and matching bed sheets.
“Wow.” I mumbled. “I must be doing something right; I’m going up in the world if I get a proper bed. And it matches!” My head snapped towards the door as I heard a sound and a big clunk from the other side and the door swung open and Danny walked in with a bowl and a flannel. His face was pale and His eyes had dark circles around them, which widened when he saw me.
“Oh, thank God, you’re awake.” He ran to my side and pulled me in for a hug.
“’Course I’m awake. What the hell are you talking about you weirdo. And get off me. Where the hell am I? And why does it feel like I’ve been bashed over the head with a baseball bat?” I tried to sit up, but fell back. How come I felt so weak?
“That’s because you were. Here, let me help you.” He knelt on his knees and placed his hand under my back and lifted me to a sitting position with my back against the headrest. “Put this on your head, you’ll have a headache.” He passed me the wet flannel and I did as he ordered. I didn’t have the energy to argue with him.
“What the hell do you mean, that’s because I was? What the hell did you do to me?” I tried to move myself away from him, but failed when my arms gave way again,
He put his hand up in surrender and leant backwards. “It wasn’t me. It was Tony. He caught you trying to escape and he wasn’t happy. He shouldn’t have done it and he’s been dealt with.”
“Oh my god. “Do you mean he was…?” As much as I didn’t like the bloke and if he was the one to cause this mammoth of a headache, I certainly wouldn’t have been letting him off the hook, but he didn’t deserve to die.
He shook his head and chuckled. “No, he wasn’t. He just got a taste of his own medicine. Boss made sure of that.”
I closed my eyes for a second and took a deep breath. “Do you reckon you could get me some pain killers? My head really hurts.”
He shook his head again. “No, sorry. You’ve not long had some.”
I groaned. “How have you been giving me them, I’ve been asleep.” I asked, curiously.
“I’ve been going to the hospital every couple of days to get you some morphine. You had your last dose about an hour ago.”
What? Days? “What do you mean ‘every couple of days’? How long have I been out?”
He shrugged and diverted his gaze to the floor, not wanting to answer my question.
“Daniel. You tell me now or so help me God, as soon as I can actually move properly again, you’ll bloody well regret it.” I seethed.
He gulped and then sighed. “10 weeks. You’ve been out 10 weeks.”
My jaw dropped. 10 weeks? 10. Whole. Weeks? “Have I… Have I been asleep this whole time?”
