Crystali Evans. My echos in my head as I stand there, frozen. The other thirteen year olds clear a path for me.
"Where are you, dear? Don't be scared, come on up." Opal says.
I slowly and hesitantly walk up to the stage. "Come on." Opal says with a smile, holding her hand out. She grabs my shoulder and leads me to the middle of the stage. I look around for my parents. "Now for a boy tribute."
She puts her hand in the bowl with the boy's names and pulls one out. She comes back over to the microphone and says the name. "Christan Foley!"
Not him. Christan Foley is one of the strongest here in District 2. He snap me in half easily!
Christan slowly makes his way towards the stage, a slightly worried expression on his face. I don't know if he's scared or if he genuinely doesn't want to hurt someone who is three years younger then him. Me and Christan shake hands once he's on stage.
"Would you please give a round of aplause for our tributes bravery and sacrifice!" There's a slow scattered aplause.
Sacrifice? We don't have a choice to do it! The only way you get out of it is if you younger then twelve or older then eighteen! And if someone voulenteers. But the last time someone ever volenteered was two years ago when Katniss Everdeen volenteered to go instead of her sister Prim. No one's done it since.
Peacekeepers lead us into the Justice Building. They take us into separate room and I'm alone until my mom, dad, and older brother come in.
"Three minutes." The Peacekeeper says before shutting the door.
The first thing I do is hug them tightly. "Don't let them take me," I say, scared and tears streaming down my cheeks.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, sweetheart," Mom says gently. "But, they won't let us."
"Listen, duckling," Samuel, my older and only brother, says. He puts his hand on my shoulder and crouched to look me in the eyes. "Your good with knives and daggers. At the Cornucopia, grab a bag and some weapons and run. Got it?"
I nod. "But how am I supposed to know where we're going to be at?"
"It'll be fine. Just make sure you get food and water and shelter," he says and I nod. He pulls me into a hug.
"I'm gonna miss you while your gone," Dad says. He hands me a silver ring that looks like a vine. "Just so you have something to remember of us."
I smile at it and put it on. The Peacekeeper comes back and forces my family out. "We'll be watching, duckling!" Samuel says before the door shuts.
I look around the room. How long am I staying in here? I just want to get this over with. Even if I die.
The Peacekeeper comes back a minute later and drags me out of the room.

I look out the window of the train as Christan sits down in front of me. "You alright?" He asks. I nod still looking out the window.
"Look, I don't want to kill you in the Arena--"
"You won't have to. I'll probably be dead even before I get away from the Corncopia." I interupt.
"You don't know that. Your stronger then you think," he says.
"I'm thirteen! The others are going to be older then me! I'm not going to make any alliances! I'm weak!"
"Your not weak. I've seen you throw knives and daggers when you were training. Your good! You'll make it." I can tell he's getting irritated but he stays calm.
I look back out the window. The sky is painted with pink, orange, and red. I stand up and head to my room without saying anything to Christan.
***"Look! There it is!" I exclaim and run to the nearest window. The Capitol is so big! There's blackness as we enter a tunnel.
"Don't get so excited, sweetheart," Finn, our mentor, says and I turn to face him. "They'll all be laughing at you behind your back and betting on who will win. It most likely won't be you to win."
That's it. I've had enough. I grab a knife from the table next to me and throw it at him narrowly missing his hand as it hits the table.
Opal gasps and turns around. "Your not supposed to kill him!" She says. "Your supposed to kill him!" She points to Christan.
Finn looks at me along with Christan who was sitting next to him. "Fiesty. Looks like there is hope in you after all."
I look back out the window just as we exit the tunnel. There's alot of colorful people cheering and waving. I wave back which makes them go even more crazy. "Christan, look!"
Christan gets up and walks over to the window. "Woah." He waves too. "There's a lot of people in the Capitol."
"Yeah, there is." I agree. I forget about what happened yesterday and continue to smile and wave.
I may not make it through the Games but at least I'll try to have some fun.
