Garin wasn’t exactly certain what time it was when he awoke, though he assumed it must be around the morning hours, as the guards had already changed post. He glanced over to see Javik sleeping all too peacefully for one who had spent the night on a cold, smelly stone floor. Garin reached out and shoved his partner, causing him to jolt awake with a soft snort.

“Hmm? Wha-?” He watched Javik blink sleepily and hurriedly take in his surroundings. It comforted Garin to know that such habits were forever engrained in potion master’s life. To awaken and take your surroundings in is the first learned habit one’s master would teach you. Upon realizing there was no trouble at hand, Javik rubbed the sleep from his eyes, and yawned a bit. “Mm, nice of them to give us a warm place to sleep for the night. I think I’ve got to pee, though. How long have you been awake?”

“No longer than you.” He nodded to the men outside of their cell. “The guards have changed shift.” He spoke, keeping his voice low. “They will be easier to surprise. But since you seem to have slept so easily, and you got me into this mess which caused me to still be here on Nadia’s birthday, and you made me punch that guard for you last night, I say you should be the one to distract them.”

“Distract them? How?” Javik frowned. “I’ve only just woken up!”

“You need to pee, haven’t you?” Garin grinned. “So go pee.”

Javik sighed, and rolled his eyes. “You’re helping me hunt my rabbits for this.”

“Yeah, yeah.” Garin nodded, waving a hand to send Javik on his way.

“I’m going, I’m going!” Javik huffed, causing Garin to chuckle in response, watching his partner push himself to his feet and stumble sleepily to the guard near their cell. Garin couldn’t be certain if he was walking in such a way because he was actually tired, or if it were just an act. Javik could easily talk a king off his throne, so it was sometimes difficult to tell when he was acting or not.

“Ex-Excuse me, kind sir.” Javik spoke, slurring his speech just enough to sound as though he’d not fully woken up. He slipped a finger through the bars of the cell door, sharply prodding the guard’s shoulder.

The guard turned, taking both Javik and Garin by surprise. She was female, and eying Javik with great disdain now. “What do you want?” She demanded with a frown.

“Ah, ‘scuse me, Miss!” Javik grinned lazily. “I jus’ really have to pee, you see…”

“Then go in that corner over there.” The female guard rolled her eyes and turned back around.

“Ah, you don’t want me doin’ that, do ya, Miss? I mean, I don’t mind, but… seems to me that you’ve only just begun your post this morning, and you don’t want to have to stay down here with the stink all day, do ya?”

Garin stayed seated, content to simply watch Javik work. It was always rather fascinating to him.
