New Year's Dance

Emily was excited. Tonight was New Year's Eve and that meant she was going to get to go to the New Year's Eve dance. And her crush Derek would be there. So Emily wore her best outfit. She got to the dance and immediately made her way to her group of friends. She stayed with them most of the night occasionally leaving to get a small snack. Even though she wanted to dance with Derek, she didn't. The last dance of the night was about to play and she recognized it as a song she would listen to every now and then. Rewrite the Stars from the Greatest Showman. She walked out of the gym and went outside as the song was announced. She was upset that she had let her anxiety take over and stop her from dancing. She heard footsteps behind her but she didn't really care. Then she heard a voice begin to sing.
You know I want you,
Its not a secret I try to hide,
His singing stopped her dead in her tracks. It was Derek. Emily turned around. He finished the male part and she began to sing.

Emily turned away not letting Derek get to her. Her voice quivered every so often. Then she felt Derek turn her around. He took her right hand into his left and put his right one to her waist and they sang the duet.
All I want is to fly with you
All I want is to fall with you
So just give me all of  you.
Derek sent Emily thru twirl after twirl. Her skirt flaring and her hair flying. Then he stopped and his grip loosened. Emily knew this part to. But this is what she never told Derek. That she liked him but thought they were never meant to be together. She sang the last part.
We're bound to break and my hands...
But she never finished. She turned away from Derek and was about to run away when she felt his hand grip her wrist and turn her around. Then he lowered his lips to hers and said, "Aren't tied." and kissed her. The ball inside dropped and fireworks went off outside. Emily had never known anything like this. But in that moment she knew, SHE KNEW that they WERE meant to be together. He pulled out of the kiss and said, "Emily I love you. Pl-" Emily cut him off saying, "Yes, Yes I'll be your girlfriend." And she kissed him.
