Remembered Dances

Emily was in the gym in her church building waiting for her Wednesday activities to start. She had on her favorite song "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. It had been years since she had taken ballet but it was as if the moves she had learned hadn't been forgotten. She danced allowing herself to become lost in the music. Derek arrived twenty minutes after Emily did. He heard music and thuds coming from the gym and went to go find out what they were coming from. He entered the gym to find Emily dancing her heart out. She continued dancing for another five minutes as the song restarted itself. Derek couldn't believe his eyes. Emily looked fantastic. No scratch that. AMAZINGLY FANTASTIC! She danced completely oblivious that he was there and watching her. The music ended and Emily walked towards a shelf where she had her phone. She picked up her phone and plugged her headphones in. The music started up again and she began to sing. Derek had never known she could have such a remarkable voice. She reached high notes that only a few people she knew could reach. The music ended and Emily walked out of the gym and went to go get a drink. She walked back into the gym to grab her mini back pack. She was still oblivious to Derek being there. She heard music fill her ears again but it was not her own for she had paused her music. She turned around to see Derek walking toward her holding his hand out to her. She walked the rest of the way and took his hand. She knew the dance and the song quite well. It was something there from Beauty and the Beast. She and Derek waltzed the world around them seeming to fade until it was just them. The music stopped and they halted. "Derek," "I've never known this side of you." "I haven't let it out in years." "You should do it more often." The talking ceased. Their lips were inches apart. Derek leaned in and kissed Emily on the lips. Everything was just as it should be. Perfect.
