Strengths and Weaknesses

Emily never allowed herself to be vulnerable. She saw it as a weakness, a way that people could abuse you. So she hid every flaw that she had, to show that she was strong and capable. But she knew she was had something hidden that she was afraid of. She was afraid of what she was truly capable of. So she let herself fall behind a little and said that that was her full potential. But that gave people a way to tear her down. By saying she would never amount to anything. Emily hid that what people said hurt her. One day Emily saw a song from her favorite Disney movie. Make a man out of you from Mulan. Emily felt something course through her. She knew it was time to discover what she was truly capable of. So on Wednesday night while waiting for her activities to begin she put on the song and let the energy course through her veins. She began moving and pulling off incredible stunts that only  professional gymnast could do. Meanwhile Emily's crush Derek came to where she was at only a minute after her. Derek watched Emily flip and spin and turn through the air. She moved with agility and grace. And most of control. She landed on her feet when the song came to an end. But after a song she knew all to well began to play. It was Reflection. Also from Mulan. Emily broke down thinking she was alone. This was one of those rare times when she would release everything that she had stored for weeks to months on end. Emily felt a pair of hands pick her up and hold her. It was Derek. Only in Emily's wildest dreams was she this close to Derek. Emily broke down completely. When she quited down to all but a few sniffles Derek put her down. Derek knew Emily hated being vulnerable. He could see the pain in her eyes though when he looked at her. "Emily," Derek said, "I know you hate being vulnerable. But it's not a way for people to hurt you, but it's a way for people to grow stronger and come closer together." Emily nodded refusing to let go of Derek. She had never felt safer in all of her life. Eventually she let go of Derek but she held his hand. And together they walked to their Wednesday activities. (As an official couple)
