As the week sped along, Alex and I kept on following each other, as much as our classes would allow it. The more I think of it, the more funny it is; I thought it was quite sweet how he followed and gawped at me. To be perfectly honest, I was almost obsessed with this guy. Just to hear his name, see him walking across the courtyard, to see him smile... Well, it melted me inside and shivered up and down my spine.
In class the the next Friday, I heard from a group of boys that Alex and his friend Tom would be filming their project. It was called Squeal of Death. I thought it was a funny title. Dark, black comedy I guess. Eavesdropped I did, taking note of whereabouts Alex would be. So I followed the group of boys from a distance to where he would be. As I entered into the rather bleak block of apartments, I crept up the stairway, looking up through the bannister. At first, i saw the two man crew with the camera, with Alex in front, dressed as a dweeb. It was the first time I'd seen Alex act; he was absolutely hilarious, I couldn't stop giggling! The way he hunched over, nervously clenching his jaw in an ugly manner, looking feverishly around him. It was pure comedy gold.
Alex heard someone laughing and turned towards me; he looked down to me. I snorted as he smiled back with his thick black glasses (which quite frankly, made his eyes bigger than they already were!), a massive blue bow tie, bloody nick tissues all over his face and droopy daises in his hands. "This guy is going places," I thought to myself, "He's got the comedy. Just not the laughing audience. Man these film students are a real drag.". Alex walked down in an impish fashion to me. He stood on the step above me. But I couldn't contain my laughter. "Well hey there little lady. What can I do you for, huh?" He said squinting his eyes with a big smile, sticking out his chin. Dude, that jawline. I giggled so much I struggled to say "Well I heard you'd be here. I just thought I would stop by, see how you getting on, like." Alex smiled warmly, put his hands on his hips. "Well thank you kind madam. In return, wanna go out for a drink?" Sure, I was surprised! No one had asked me out since I was 8, and that was for dare, made by my older brothers. And even that was a complete disaster. "Of course! I'd love to!" I said, maybe a little over enthusiastic. Alex though, didn't really pay the dramatic acceptance any attention. In fact, I think he liked it. He asked me "So, this may say quite rude, but what is your name, babe? I've been wanting to know ever since I saw you." I couldn't help blushing. Did Alex really just call me babe? I bit my lip and cleared my throat; I was so much more self-conscious. "Lila. My names Lila." Alex mumbled my name, repeating it to himself. "Nice name. I'm Alex." I nodded and said rather too quickly, "Yeah I know." Dammit! What did I just say? Yeah I know?! At this moment of time, I thought for sure he would never want to go out with me. Or just kill me. Yep. For sure, kill me. Alex slightly sniggered. Oh Lord, what's he gonna say? "I like a girl who's done her research." I let a sigh of relief. Maybe I hadn't totally blown it. "Tonight, 8 o'clock, the Captains Table?" I shrugged and said, "Sure, where's that to then?" For some reason, Alex cocked his eyebrow. "What?" I asked him, wanting to know why he seemed surprised. "Sorry, its just that, did you say 'Where's that to'?" I nodded slowly. "Yeah. Why?" I asked. To which Alex replied with a smirk, "Well you don't hear that very often, round here anyway." I smiled, relieved. I don't actually know why I was relieved, but I was. Maybe it was because he might actually like me. But I wasn't going to give my hopes up. Nu-uh. "Oh right." I said cautiously, a nervous smile on my lips. Alex laughed. "Anyway, Captain's Table is about 20 minutes away. It's kinda posh, snazzy sort." I licked my lips, my hand fiddling with the handle of my bag. Oh good lord, I can't afford anything like that though. How can I tell him? "That sounds amazing, and don't take this the wrong way, but I don't have that sort of money, Alex. Could we just grab a McDonalds instead?" Alex gave out a sigh with a nervous laugh. "Thank God! I thought you'd be like into high society and all that." I scrunched up my face, trying not to laugh. "Why's that?" I asked. Alex said "Well you're from England." I nudged him in a friendly way and cried out "Oh come 'ed! I'm no snob Alex. I'm as broke as a church mouse you know!" Alex and I laughed together. "Well that is good news, fair maiden!" He said in his (pretty impressive) British impersonation, flaring his nostrils. "I've gotta get going now, but 8 o'clock tonight at Mac's?" He asked; I agreed. "Gotta fly, see you later Alex!" I said as I ran back down the stairs. "Look forward to it Lila." He said, with his warm smile, leaning on the bannister. My heart fluttered within my chest. I did really like him. And now I was going out with him. Lawd what am I going to wear?Hi dudes, really enjoying writing this story. Hope you are well, and having good day. I'm no good with words, so I'm just gonna go now.
