May, '86.Ay, I almost forgot the day that something disastrous happened. It was an accident waiting to happen, really. It was gonna be a clear night on the Boardwalk. It wasn't even night yet. They were all setting up for the awesome bike riding on the Boardwalk. People were crowding out the place with their excitement and anticipation. It was warmer than the night they filmed on the bridge. Man was that cold, Alex really struggled that night, what with the temperature and Marko's cryptic character. That evening, the atmosphere was electric with all the adrenaline and excitement that surrounded Alex, Billy and Brooke. "Hey guys, look what I learnt!" Kiefer started to show off on his bike, while Alex and I were chatting to each other in the distance. When we looked around, he was off. Let's pause a minute. Okay, it started with a cute girl. When doesn't it right? So, Kiefer noticed this cute girl... revved up his bike, popped a wheelie... And hit one of the trolley car tracks. It seemed forever for gravity to take its course. But it all seemed to happen so fast at the same time. Kiefer held out his hands to cushion his fall and ended up breaking his wrist. Everyone, including Alex and I ran to his rescue, to his aid. There was a lull. It felt like forever. Alex looked over someones shoulder, to assess the situation. "I'm good! It's just my wrist." Was the response from Kiefer. Alex and I looked at each other relieved. "Man, can you imagine?" Alex asked with his beautiful face looking awfully distressed. He didn't have to explain, I knew exactly what he meant. "Babe..." I only said, in utter and complete relief and put my head on Alex's shoulder. Alex held my head, stroking my hair soothingly. Kiefer had his hand cast by a local surf board maker. I remember he was so embarrassed by his showing off antic. I got no idea what happened to the cute girl. Alex and I chuckled, and just patted him on the back. Alex had a face that said 'That'll teach you'. And that's why David wears black gloves in the movie. Yeah, that was Kiefer.
So, back at the Warner Brothers studios sets, it was time for Marko to die. In the cave, made by the genial set designers, the space was limited. Alex had the excrutiatingly painful eye contacts put onto his eyes. Man, I did not envy them. Literally, like those contacts took up half of the eye. You know when the three young lads, Sam, Edgar and Alan enter the coffin? Yeah, well that scene brought problems and a hospital visit for Alex. And the flies, oh my, the flies that plagued the many sets to come. So, when Edgar Frog kills Marko, Feldman and Jami run off... Leaving Alex with those damned eye contacts and the dirt that flicked in his face. "Cut!" Joel, the director shouted out. Alex stumbled off the set, his hands nursing his eyes. I left Haimster in a polite hurry and ran up to Alex, saying "Alex, you good? What's wrong?" He clenched his jaw and said, "My eyes, I can see nothin'." I asked, holding his hands, "Alex, oh my days, does it hurt?" "Like hell." "I'll go get Greg." I said as I turned to leave, "Hang on Li," Alex tugged on my sleeve, "Can you take me to the bathroom?" "You serious?" "Just kiddin'." He chuckled. I giggled nervously, worried about his eyes, "Got me there, Alex." I swear he sensed my uneasiness, because he calmly stroked up and down my arm, "I'm just sad I can't see you, shroomy." "Wait here babe." I urged him as I told him to stay put as I scrambled about the set, crying out frantically for Greg (He was in charge of getting the eye contacts in and out. Yeah, can you imagine?). Greg came hurtling though the crowd, having just finished taking care of Brooke. "What is it? What's wrong?" He asked, eyes wide. "It's Alex, his eye's are hurt and he can't see." Greg nodded. To be honest, he looked just like I felt; utterly distressed. He followed me as I led the way back to Alex, who was still where I had left him. Billy was there, talking to him soothingly, offering a smoke. "Alex, Greg's here." I explained as I took his hand. "God, I feel like an idiot." Alex mumbled under his breath. Billy scoffed as I shook my head, "Better safe than sorry." Greg hummed, saying, "Damn right." As he carefully opened up Alex's eyes and looked more deeply. "Right, let's get those lenses out, pronto!" Greg announced. "Come on, honey," I murmured to Alex, leading him by letting him hold onto my shoulders, "Let's get you to the trailer." Billy followed suit, a smoke hanging out of his mouth. Guiding Alex up the stairs was fun. Eventually, we did get him sat in the makeup and hair chair. I held his hand as the talented makeup peeps got to work hoiking out those damned painful lenses. I said to him, "You're really sad you can't see me then, huh?" Alex nodded, saying "Course. I don't know what I'd do if I never saw you again." I kissed his knuckles, "I love you." I said. Holding onto his arm, he smoothed over my cheeks with his hand. The comedic goofball he is, Alex turned his head away from me and said, "I love you too, Li." To no one. I laughed harder than I expected, He'd made the very gifted Ve Niell chuckle too. "Ya know, I bet you in 30 years from now, teenage girls are gonna lose it over Marko." I said to him. He scoffed and said, "Yeah, I've nearly lost trying to play him. He's as clear as mud..." He trailed off. Intrigued, Alex asked me, "What makes you so sure, shroomy?" A moment of silence passed. I smiled to myself and mumbled to him, "Cause it's you. That's why." Ve Niell made a aww sound as she combed Alex's mullet. "What you wanna bet?" Alex asked, to which I replied, "15 bucks?" "Pfft!" Making a raspberry noise, he made the offer, "15 cents." I shrugged and complied, "Fair enough." That made him chuckle. "You've got a deal, baby."
I got Alex into the car and kissed him as held onto the ice pack on his eyes. "Make sure to kiss the children for me, dear!" Alex said in his snobbish voice, his chin protruding and nostrils flared. I shut the door after him and said with peck on his lips. "Of course, and I'll have the dinner ready for you, love!" I said as I leaned into the open window. "Let's go, come on!" Greg yelled at Alex and I. "Drive on, good sir!" Alex ordered with a nonchalant wave of his hand. I pushed off the open window and off they went. As I saw the automobile drive off, Haimster came running up to my side in his noisy flip flops. "Where's Alex go-ink?" He asked in his beautiful Canadian accent. I looked at him and draped my arm around his shoulder. That earned a smirk from him. I explained to the little chap, "Alex's eyes got hurt." Corey looked genuinely concerned and asked, "Is it bad, Li?" "I think he'll be okay. His eye looked to murky to see what was wrong. But I honestly think he's scratched his actual eye. I've seen it before." Corey clenched his jaw, showing his teeth in a tense way, "That has gotta hurt." He sympathized. "Dude, it must kill." Corey nodded, pouting. He looked at me, his eyebrows raised in a positive way, "Buuut..." Corey said slowly, "That means I've got you all to myself!" I laughed and pinched gently on his cheek, "In your dreams, sweet boy." With his iconic smirk, Corey said, "Trust me, I have!" I shook my head in disbelief. We looked at each other and burst out laughing.
The night had descended. Haimster and I sat in our skimpy PJs by the pool playing the Yes/No game. We sat opposite each other on the sunbathing chairs. It was my turn. "You like puppies?" "Depends." "Huh?" "They pee a lot." Corey pulled a face in a pacified manner and shrugged. "You wanna make out?" He tried to catch me out. "Definitely not, hon." "Are you in love with Alex?" "Indisputedly." I sighed. "Hmm? Is that even a word?" I nodded, "Yeah, it is." "Nu-uh." "Ya-huh." "Nope." "Yep." He laughed in my face, clapping his hands, "Hah! Got you! You said yep!" He cried out. I was about to start to argue with him, when I heard Alex's distinguished voice say, "Hush children!" I jumped up immediately. Seeing him enter the pool area, I ran up to him and at once, wrapped my legs around his waist. He giggled, securing me in his arms,as I shrieked "Are you okay?" "Yeah, it feels a lot better." I examined it closely, "The swellings gone down." Kissing around his poor eye, feeling sorry for him, "Mmm. It turns out I scratched my cornea." I groaned and mumbled, "Aww, my poor lil Alex," As I kissed him slow. With just a glimpse of his face, I again kissed him, saying, "Poor Alex." With another slow kiss, I whispered, "My poor baby." Again, lingering on his beautiful lips, "I'll make you feel better, Alex." I whispered as I kissed down to his neck and collarbone. I smirked at him. He smirked at me. "Ahem." We heard Corey clear his throat loudly. We turned our heads as he stood, "I'll leave you two alone, I think." We both protested, I stopped Corey from walking away, by putting my hand on his chest. Alex made the great suggestion, "Let's go for a swim," Corey's face showed he was about to say no, but Alex wouldn't have it, "Come on, it'll be fun!" So we did. The pool lights were dimly lit. Alex and I pretended that we were sharks and Corey had to swim for his life. Man, that was fun. Well, our clothes were wet, but who cares? It's just water.
