It wasn't until I woke up with the sunlight flooding in through the window that I actually looked around Alex's room. I didn't remember falling asleep, I must have passed out pretty fast. Even having that amount of sleep, I felt lethargic. I yawned as I rubbed my eyes; when I opened my eyes fully, I saw his posters plastered on the walls. At first, I saw Meat Puppets, ZZ Top and then Alfred Hitchcock's silhouette, making me giggle. Ugh, I'd have to get going soon if I didn't want to be late for my classes. I looked at my watch; 7:01 AM. Less than an hour. Great. I wondered if Alex was up. Just give it another minute. I stared at the curtains as I had my arm on my forehead, thinking of nothing particular. But I do remember being grateful for ever meeting Alex. Just then, I heard a knock on the door. "Li? You up?" Alex mumbled. I groaned wearily as I gathered the covers up to my chest and sat up, getting a better look at him. "Hey there, sleepy head. You good?" I nodded, "Yeah, I'm good. Just uh, don't expect much talking in the mornings, please." I rubbed my eyes, smiling. "Noted. You want coffee?" he asked as he leaned on the door. "That would mean the world to me. Thank you, beautiful." Alex nodded as he yawned and ruffled his curly mass of hair, "Sure thing." He mumbled as he walked off. He forgot to shut the door. I sighed. Great. I grunted as I landed on my stomach and wiggled over the bed. Like a caterpillar, I crawled over the floor to the door. As I was about to stretch out my arm to shut the door, Alex appeared. He tried his best not to look amused. "Ah, so the truth comes out; you aren't human after all." He said crossing his arms. I snorted, "We have to stop meeting like this." I muttered. He simpered, "I only came back to ask how you like your coffee." "Not weak, no sugar thanks." Alex nodded and slowly nodded shut the door, "You could've asked me to shut it, ya know?" He said laughing as I led there on my back, trying to look sophisticated. As he shut the door, I mouthed silently, "Thank you." To which he nodded briefly. I bit my lip in pure embarrassment and giggled to myself. Surely, I can't be the only one who gets caught in an awkward situation? Alex, yeah, I get that. Definitely. I tumbled back up on my feet, stretching with a howl and looked out the window. Alex's vinyl record collection was scattered on the floor, beside the record player. I rummaged through the LP's. Woah, he had quite the selection, stuff I liked and never even heard of! There was quite a lot of KISS though; you just know when a person is obsessed with something, ha. Anywho, I finally settled on KISS' album Alive! It played softly (as soft as rock can play, ha.) as I criss-crossed my arms around my sides, standing in the beautiful sunshine. As I wrapped myself back up in Alex's sheets, I breathed in deeply, his scent intoxicated my senses. I couldn't quite make out what it was, like an oily garage, or woody? I couldn't be sure, but in those few moments on my own, I felt so calm and nostalgic, with the skies blue and sun beams spilling out of the curtains. There was a knock on the door, "Come in!" I said. Alex replied, "Can you open the door please, Lila?" I stumbled off the bed and sprinted across the room, opening the door for him. "Sorry, I couldn't open it, my hands are full." He explained with the two glorious cups of coffee in his hands. "Here's yours." he said as he put it on the bedside table. "Thank you, Alex." I said as he plopped down on the bed, leaning on against the wall. I sat beside him with my coffee, listening to KISS in the background. "You like KISS then, huh?" He asked. Yes please! I thought to myself with a little snicker. But I played it cool and nodded as I took a sip of hot coffee. "My brothers got me into them and AC/DC too. I've never seen 'em live though," Alex hummed while sipping his coffee, "Yeah, AC/DC's awesome." He mumbled softly, his gravelly morning voice thrilled me. I took another quick sip and said with a smile, "You must love KISS though." Alex tried not to spit out his coffee, coughing, "Yeah, not that its obvious," I giggled, as he added "I went to see them when I was a kid. I loved them. Part of the KISS army and everything." He said. "No way. My older brother was, but my other brother's too much of a snob." Alex laughed. A few minutes passed as we sat and listened. Alex's feet bobbed up and down with the rhythm. Feeling more invigorated by the coffee, I asked "How'd you sleep anyway?" "Yeah, pretty good." "You're not just saying that?" Alex shook his head, "Nah, really. The couch's surprisingly okay to sleep on." I wasn't so sure. "Mm'kay... Well I'm goin' to look for jobs in the paper today, alright?" Alex looked at me intently, "Listen, don't worry. It's all good." I shook my head, "Nope. It's settled, I'm looking for a job. Okay? I can't sit around do nothin'. Besides, you can't sleep on the couch forever." Alex looked at me with puppy dog eyes and said "Come on, look, you're goin' to college," Alex said as his fingers counted on is one hand, "And you've just got here. Just... be reasonable, Li." I scoffed, "I am. Look, I appreciate what you're saying. Really, I do. Its all good Alex. Hey," I held his hand and whispered, "Where you go, I go. Promise." KISS' Nothing To Lose was playing in the background as Alex leaned in for a kiss on my lips. How appropriate, eh. I closed my eyes as I smelt his hot coffee breath on my face, anticipating his touch. "Lila..." He whispered. "Morning kids!" We both shot up and gulped down our coffee. Mrs W walked past the door with a smirk. I couldn't help giggling. I said, "I love your ma." Alex rolled his eyes, trying not to smile.
Me and Alex managed to get to NYU with just a couple of minutes to spare. We went our separate ways to our classes. "Meet me here at lunchtime, alright?" Alex said at the crosswalk, with a quick peck on my lips. We parted way with smug grins on our faces. Well, the classes were a little boring, we were just covering what I'd already learnt really. It's funny, nothing from my college days ever really sticks out. Only meeting Alex, ha. Who wouldn't forget that? Lunchtime rolled round and I was the first out the door. The weather had actually got a little cooler from what it was in the morning. I untied my jacket from my waist and pulled it on over shoulders as I strode to the crosswalk. I saw Alex as soon as I set my eyes on him. I could always spot him a hundred miles off.
He was talking to one of his college buddies. His smile, man. Alex's smile, I mean. It made the world stop a minute and the sun shine. Looking at him, just came naturally. You literally couldn't take your eyes off his beauty. He noticed me gawking at him and stared back with his benevolent smile, captivating me entirely. "Yo, Lila!" He called. I jolted my head in total realization he could see me. "Ah, there you are, Alex!" I put my arm around his waist and put my head on his chest. Aw, he was just the perfect size to cuddle. "Yeah, I totally caught you looking at me." He mumbled as he put his arm over my shoulder. I, of course, blushed. "Li, this is Chris. Chris, this is Lila." "Hiya, Chris. Good to meet you." "Yeah, you too." He said as he smiled and shook my hand. "Hey, we're just gonna to grab lunch. You wanna come, Chris?" Chris shook his head sorrowfully, "Nah, sorry man, I've gotta bunch of stuff to do." "No worries dude, next time, huh?" "Yeah, sure thing. See you round. And hey, in case I don't see you, break a leg!" "Thanks man." Chris started to sprint to the crosswalk as I yelled, "Have a good one, Chris!" "You too, Lila!" He shouted back as he ran across the crosswalk. "Real nice dude, Chris." Alex said. "Yeah, he seems really nice." Alex distracted my thoughts by pecking me on the lips, "Hello again, my lil mushroom." He said as he smushed his hands in my hair, messing up my bed head even more, "Mushroom?!" He smiled again... Aaah that smile again. Melts me every time. "Yeah. Your hair, its like a mushroom. You're my lil mushroom." I giggled, "Thank you, I think?" He pecked me on the lips again, "It is a compliment, Li, I assure you," He leaned out to get a better look at me, "So, lunch. What do you say, milady?" I nodded, "I heartily concur!" Alex put his arm out and said "Right this way, madam." Alex said with his husky old man voice.
