Well, eventually when I had given up my antics of trying to tease Alex, we arrived at their house. It was very picturesque indeed. I noticed a motorbike in the driveway with a slight gasp. I asked Alex, "You ride?" He nodded. "Yeah, I love it," Alex said with a sigh, "but I haven't had much time to ride lately," He stroked the lights, as he asked, "You ever ridden on one before?" I shrugged, "Once or twice with friends back home," I added melodramatically, "When I was young!" Alex chuckled with me. I looked at it more closely. It was a the real deal. A BMW motorbike from the 70's... with a queen seat! "Queen seat..." I said slowly, "You ever taken a girl on the back?" Alex blushed and shrugged, "Would you think I was lying if I said no?" I laughed, "Yeah, definitely. Not that I mind." Alex looked away in a suspicious manner. "Wait, you're serious? You've never taken a girl on this bike?" Alex only smiled. I scoffed. "Shes a beaut." I mumbled as I felt the handlebars. "More like a beast." Alex said. I nodded, quite impressed and said, "I hear that they're quite fast." Alex nudged me with a wink and said "I'm goin' to take you for a ride some day." "I'm gonna hold you to that, you know that, right?" Alex snickered. "Yeah, I know. No problem," Alex turned as he said, "Come on then." I followed him and looked up to the house; it was wooden built, way different from NY and back home too. It was a truly beautiful corner of the earth. And it didn't really take long to get anywhere either. Yes, this was the probably the most captivating and quiet places I'd ever had the pleasure to stay in. I temporarily lived there for a short while. I could've lived there forever. Scratch that, I could've lived there forever... with Alex, of course.

Alex helped me up with the suitcases up to the porch outside the house. "Why don't they make houses like this back home?" I said out loud, to no one in particular. Alex laughed into a grunt, as he heaved the suitcase up. "Because they're bone idle over there!" He wheezed. I heard a woman shout out the window from the top story. I looked up and saw her waving from the top. I was still panting from hoisting the luggage from the ground and mumbled, " Figures." Alex chuckled as he entered the front door. "Hiya maw!" He shouted up the stairs. "Hey babes, you're in late hun! And we've gotta eat, and get Lila all settled too, how'd you think these things work?" I snickered as Alex rolled his eyes. "Yeah yeah, ma. Well, we're here, in one piece, with all Lila's stuff. Must be a modern day miracle!" His mother chuckled and said as she looked to me, "I'm sure you're exaggerating Alex." Then she looked at what we had hauled with us. "Good lord... Maybe you're right." Alex sighed as he heaved the suitcase in his arms. I put an arm out and stopped him, saying "No, just leave 'em and have a rest Alex, please. You've done so much already, don't put your back out, eh?" Alex looked at me with a kind smirk and nod. His mother laughed as she had her arms open and embraced me. "Good to meet you, Mrs Winter." I mumbled into her shoulder. She squeezed tighter. "Likewise, my dear." She then let go and said, "Let's get you both fed and watered, come on. You'll be wanting a shower too, huh guys?" I nodded and grimaced saying "Yes please." She nodded saying "Well," she hugged Alex, kissing his soft cheek, as she continued to speak, "We've only one bathroom, so between you, you're gonna have to fight over it." She said as she turned around, walking for the kitchen. "Dibs." Alex muttered to me. I scoffed and nudged him, racing ahead of him to the kitchen. "Hey, ey!" He called as he ran for me and caught from behind and spun me around towards the door again. "Alex!" I shrieked and giggled. He let me down, as I walked back towards the door. "What is it?" He asked. I had noticed a photo hung on the wall, and was mesmerized by it. "Who's this?" Alex started pointing to the faces in the photo. "That's maw, my dad, my brother and me." I pointed to his dad and asked, "So, what happened to your dad?" "He and mom divorced in '73, he stayed in St Louis." He shrugged. "Do you keep in contact with him?" "Yeah. Not as much as I'd like. But we do every now and then meet up somewhere." I nodded. "Did you cope well, with the divorce and everything?" Alex rose his eyebrows, replying, "Yeah. It wasn't anything hostile. But I guess it made me more independent." I looked up at him as he looked to the picture with a fondness in his small smile. Man, his jawline was on point. "Come on you guys!" Mrs Winter called out to the both of us. "Coming!" I said back. Alex followed me as I walked to the kitchen. "Right, so... Who's having a shower first?" As I sat down at the table, Alex pointed his index finger to me. "She really stinks." I rolled my eyes, trying my hardest not to smile. "Always the charmer." I mumbled as he gently massaged my shoulders. "Looking on the bright side, he's letting me have dibs." His mother laughed and said "He's cheeky." I chuckled. "Mm-hmm." Alex sat opposite me. "So ma, is it okay if we eat, I can show Lila around the place, and I'll help you to wash up in a minute?" "Yeah, sure, you guys can do whatever you want." I tried my hardest not to smile, I looked at Alex, whose cheeks blushed. "Okay, maybe not do whatever you want." Mrs Winter chuckled, looking at my face that said it all. "It's real nice to have you stay with us Lila. Alex has told me a lot about you. All good, don't worry. You seem sensible." I nodded, with an awkward smile. "Well, that's very kind of you," I said quietly with a smirk, "I'm going to look for a job ASAP, 'cause I don't want to put you out at all. Trust me, I know how it feels." Mrs Winter waved her hand in an nonchalant manner, "Don't panic though, please." I nodded in agreement. "Ah, by the way, she is just as mad as me, mom." Mrs Winter put her head in her hands, with a sigh. "Oh no..." She mumbled, with a smile. "Yeah, but no one is mad as you, Alex!" She reasoned with her hand spread and gestured to him. "No, true... I think I can change that." He said. I smirked at him all smug with my eyebrow cocked. "Food!" Mrs Winter announced. Alex put his hands in the air, whooping.

So, we ate dinner. Man, it was delicious. I was kinda like a herby pasta. Mmm, so tasty. "That was so good, Mrs W." I said as I put clasped my hands over my stomach. As she chewed, she sighed in delight, "Glad you liked it, Lila." "Liked it?" The two of them looked to me. "I absolutely loved it. I need that recipe." Mrs W nodded with a smile and wiped up the last of the sauce with the garlic bread. "I'll get that up together for you." "Delicious ma." Alex said as he got up with his empty dish; he walked over to her and kissed her on the cheek. "Thanks mom." Hen put his empty plate in the sink and looked over to me, asking, "You up for some exploring, huh, Lila?" I nodded. "Yar." Mrs W almost spat out her dinner, laughing at me. "What's so funny?" Alex said. "Sorry Lila, no offence, but you sound like a pirate!" She giggled as she put her hands to her mouth, trying not to laugh. "Oh!" I said as I laughed. "Crazy woman." Alex mumbled as he led the way. I followed him, trying to kick his butt again, saying, "That's where you get it from, huh?" He turned around, with a smirk, squinting his eyes. "Your excellency?" I said slowly, giggling, as he tried not to laugh. But he couldn't hold in his broad smile anymore. I snorted as I brushed past him. "Come on then, what about this tour you're supposed to take me on?" Alex kicked my butt then, making me squeal. "Right, okay, 'nough fooling around. Let us go milady." He said, scrambling over his own feet, "I love you." I muttered, still trying not to giggle, my hand over my mouth.  Alex's snapped his gaze on me. "What was that?" He asked. I shook my head repeatedly, "No, no. I said nothing." Alex held my shoulders and forced me to look up at him. "What did you say?" Being so close to him made me almost burst with joy. "You just make me happy, Alex." I managed to say  through my ragged breaths  and hugged him tightly. "You make happy too, Lila." It was most euphoric that day. I'll never forgot what we said. "You giggle a lot, you know." Alex whispered as he held me close, looking into my eyes. I whispered back, "'Cause you make it the hardest to be miserable."

Those were the best days of my life. (back in the summer of '69, ha)
