CHAPTER 9- AWKWARD MOMENTS

JI WOO

I took a last look at myself in the mirror. “If looks could kill,” I smiled, as I buttoned the suit jacket. “Looking good… like I always do!” Talk about conceited. Ha!

I walked out, feeling fresh and pumped for Summer Events Fashion Show, until my stomach howled. It gnawed in the inside and gurgled. “Hyung, you missed breakfast again didn’t you? You’re gonna get yourself sick.” Kim Tae sounded from the couch. He flipped through the endless comedy shows. “You on a diet or something?” he scoffed.

I moved towards the couch, grabbing a pillow from the seat beside him and attempted to strangle him with it. “How dare you talk to your elder like that? Huh?” We both laughed as I punched him.

“Iya, I can’t breathe! Hyung, seriously!” Tae struggled under the pillow.

“Serves you right. Besides, it slipped out of my mind.”

“Aisii, you’re really irresponsible.” He smoothed out his Mohawk, making sure it looked alright.

“Back to the point, you at least brought me any?” clutching my side, since it was starting to hurt.

“Aniyo, I’m not responsible for that. You go get some yourself.” He was no help, like usual.

“Tell me where you guys ate.”

“Studio. Go catch up with them, I think we left some leftovers in the garbage. You can dig em’ up if you want,” his eyes were glued to the TV.

“Bastard…” walking out and rushing towards the company car.

I got there and automatically hopped into the elevator. The ride felt longer than it usually was, and something was taking me off my train of thought. Maybe a little nausea also, but I shook it off. There was a fashion show waiting at 2:00. Finally, the doors opened, and out came the others.

“Ya, it’s Ji!” Kai gave me a little outburst. His group all looked at me and greeted me with a smile.

“Anyeong.” Was all I felt like saying, even their friendliness was a bit too much for me right now.

“Where do you think you’re heading? You’ve already missed breakfast.” Young Ah pulled me out of the elevator. “I bet you’re hungry, since there’s purplish bags under your eyes.” She pointed her acrylic nails straight at my nose. Pulling my head back, I felt a little suffocated by their attention.

“You can say that…”was pushing her hand away from my face.

“Well alright then, Eun Mi is in the studio. Meanwhile, we gotta get ready for the show anyway so eat up and I guess we’ll pick you guys up?”

“Sure…” still a little baffled about a free ride.

They shuffled into the elevator, waving as the doors closed. “That was weird.”

Then I went down the hall, hinting the sound of the piano. Ah, I guess Eun Mi is there. Rounding the corner, I heard her hum softly. I was in awe, her cute vocals sounded distressed. Bet it had to do with her bruised arm. It made me laugh on the inside. She acted more vulnerable rather hiding it. What a weird girl.

“You’re caught!” I said, interrupting her, while the keys made a disgruntled sound. She tried to pull up a white jacket. Too late, and she was really bad at hiding things.

Then I found her gaping at me. Was I really that good looking? Couldn’t help but laugh at myself, then found her frowning. How can her expressing change so fast? “What do you want?!” Ouch.

“Um, nothing much really, just you know, hanging…?” she looked at me weird. I sighed, “Fine. I’m starving.” trying to charm her into cooking me something. Better out than in, Shrek had said!

“You’re ridiculous.” She scoffed as she got up from her seat and rolled her eyes whining.

“Not as ridiculous as your dress. Girl, who wears a jacket in the summer?”

Her face cringed, taken aback at my response, “You already know I’m not in the mood. Maybe this fashion show isn’t the light of all darkness at this moment right now. Now ka! I don’t feel like cooking.”

I bit my lip, feeling the sudden urge to throw up. “Where’s that dress?” I said, trying to be nice. Her fashion-forward trendy guest list needed a little awe. She needed all the help she can get.

Her eyebrows rose, her face lighting up a bit. “What dress?”

“Pink, over knee, trails, heels, you know what I mean.” while starting to imagine the outfit.

Her expression lifted, half-sprinting towards the mirror glass. She played with a little touch-screen pad and poof! Out came a hidden closet. Damn she was rich. “This dress?” pulling out the dress she wore the official first time I laid eyes on her.

I felt numb, my words barely coming out as a whisper. I wonder how I sounded. “Yes, now put it on. Hurry!” I was starting to get a little dizzy. So I sat down on the piano stool, getting a little handsy with the piano, pressing random buttons and chords to get rid of the nausea. After a quick five minutes she walked out, looking prettier, the color complementing her better. “Nice.” I was pretty awed, since she did look like eye candy.

“Komoa.” She picked up her white jacket from the floor and began to put it on. I caught her in the arm.

“Hell no.” holding onto her a little tighter than I expected. Maybe I should’ve approached her while crawling. It would’ve gave out more effect.

“What?” She said, slipping her arm out. I grabbed her lavender dress and ripped a straight portion of the frills. I encircled them around her arm that had the bruise. “Now, it looks better than putting on a jacket.” She walked away from me, me, stumbling across the dance floor, trying to grab hold of something.

“Ah, I see what you did there. Now it looks like a cuff! Pretty sm—” was the last thing I heard her say. It was straight-forward darkness as I fainted onto the oddly warm dance-floor.

EUN MI

“Uh-- Ji, please, stop joking around. I’m serious. If you want, I’ll cook you food. Seriously, wake up!” I was starting to freak, Ji Woo literally collapsed right in front of me, and right now he is utterly oblivious to the fact that we have to attend to the showcase in an hour or so. Was he playing or what, because I had no time for foolishness.

But looking back at him, he looked peaceful. Aside from all the things I hide from the outside world, he seemed to oddly displace himself from the others as well. In a sense, certainly, he hid like me, but he was a better one. His pain didn’t look like it sufficed long enough though, but who am I to say, since it was unlike the one that I’ve hidden for years. He was… different. I watched as he mumbled little snores in his charade. “Ji, are you awake?”

“Hmbdbshb… food.” He mumbled. Was he kidding? “Food.”

“Oh, ok. I guess you wanted food didn’t you?” I laughed his idiocy was quite saddening. “C’mere.” I sat kneeling down, lifting his head so that he can rest his head on it. He did the same, resting his head onto my lap, still closing his eyes.

“Please…?” He pleaded, his arm covering his eyes. He was trying to actually get me to sympathize him, and I couldn’t help but laugh at his drama.

I played with his hair. “Really?” I couldn’t help but smile.

“Ne, chingu please.” He pleaded, finally looking up at me. His eyes were a dark brown, along with the little bluish color of his bags. “Dead serious,”

“Then get—”

I felt my cheeks turn red. “Baekho is here!” Baekho came out, full on boyish charm and charisma ready to surprise anyone in his presence. He cleaned up well too.
