Pain. It had been the only thing I had ever known.

Of course, I've only known of a few things my whole life. Pain, darkness, heat, bread and whiskey. I didn't know what 'books' were for, or how to use a 'pencil' as he told me repeatedly as he hurt me, saying if I was normal I would have been born with the ability to use books and pencils.

"But no." He hissed, grabbing a fistful of my hair and pulling my head up so he could see my face. "You had to be born in flames. That's why I have you chained to the walls." He dropped my head back onto the hard floor and kicked my stomach again, making me cough up red water. "Because the world doesn't need another dead Shelby." He spat, twisting on his heel and walking away. As soon as he was gone I sat up with a hiss, leaning against the back wall as I studied my stomach. As usual I could already feel the scalding heat as flames danced across my sore and bloody stomach, leaving a trail of already fading bruises.

No matter how many times I watched the flames dance over my injuries, it always transfixed me. I raised my hand and willed it to start, to heat my hand. Poof, my entire hand was engulfed in the beautiful reds and yellows, making delighting shapes of scaly heads, hissing and snapping before falling back onto my fingertips.

"Beast, I brought yo-NO!" Master screamed, dropping my meal in his horror, the glass smashing into a million pieces. He picked up the red canister and pointing the nosel at me. "Never use your curse you wretched thing!" He screamed, spraying the contents of the canister onto my body, burning my skin. "You monster!" I screamed, my body heating up, but the white stuff kept my body from bursting into flames, eating away at my skin like acid.

Amazing first chapter. If anybody reads this, thx for reading my spectacular fail :D!
