Don't Let Go.

The Argument

" Just tell me where she is. I'm allowed to see my own daughter! " Eric yells. " Vi... " Ashley says scared. The look on Ashley's face is terrifying. Violet has never seen her like this. Violet moves up to Eric and takes his hand and leads him into another room. Violet closes the door quickly and turns to look at Eric. " Why are you here? " She asks angered. " I texted you. Multiple times! You didn't answer me. I called Ashley and she told me you only broke off our engagement because you wanted us to be happier! You wanted ME to be happier! " Eric yells as his eyes get watery. Violet gulps and takes a deep breath. " So? Is it true?! " He asks sternly. 

Violet nods her head. Eric looks at Violet in sorrow. " Why? " He asks. Violet stays silent as her face reddens. " WHY?! " He screams seething. " Why do you have no self esteem? Why do you always think the worst of yourself! It's like you gave up! " Eric yells. " What can I say! I have given up, OK?! I feel sorry for everyone who has to put up with me, Everyone who feels sorry for me. I don't want to drag you, or Ashley down! I don't want to live the life I have now. I want everything to be like it was before. I'm sorry that I make you angry and upset, but I've lost all hope! " Violet yells as she sheds a slight tear. Violet falls down out of her chair and onto the floor. " Eric! How do I fix this? Can I fix this?! " She asks dejected. 

Eric kneels down to the floor as her hugs Violet. " I'm sorry Violet. I'm sorry you feel this way. I wish we could go back in time, and fix everything. If I could have helped you in anyway to stop the crash, I would. Believe me when I say this Vi, These weeks apart from you, have not made me mad at you, or anyone. And, I'm sorry that I busted in here and was yelling at Ash. I'm sorry for yelling at you, too. " He says as he gently lifts Violet up into her wheelchair. " Thank you, Eric. I really needed to hear that. But, I saw you... " Violet says uncomfortable. " What do you mean? " Eric says puzzled. " After my session with Dr. Mathew, he told me that I should try to fix things with you. That I should tell you why I broke it off, and that I want to fix everything. I drove over to our house, and I looked through the front window. You know, the one that shows the dinning room table? Well, I saw you with a girl. The same girl I saw you with at the diner. I saw you two eating dinner. And then... " Violet says shy. 

" Vi, I'm sorry you had to see that. I was so angry at myself when that happened. I thought that I needed to move on. I tried texting you multiple times after you moved here. I tried calling you, and everything. But, you never answered or responded. I was talking to Jake after practice. He said that you probably moved on, and wanted me to do the same. So, I tried. But, when I was with her on that date, I thought of you. When I kissed her neck, and took off her clothes, I only had you in my mind. I thought of your laugh and smile. " Eric says. " You- you slept with her? And you thought of me when you did it?! " Violet yells disgusted. " What? No, I didn't mean it like that! " Eric says ashamed. 

" Get out. You're disgusting... " Violet says as she opens the door and rolls over to the front door. Violet reaches up for the knob and turns it to the right. " Leave. I thought we could fix this, but every time we open our mouths, we mess everything up. " She says serious. " Vi, please. Let me expla- " " No need for explaining. I don't want us to be like this. It's better if we just stop then keep fighting. What you did today, was terrible. I have never, not once, seen Ashley like the way I saw her today. " Violet says looking up at him serious and hurt. " I'm sorry I caused you trouble. " Eric says as he lays his hand on the door frame and takes a step out of the room. Suddenly, a small and squeaky voice falls behind him. " Daddy! " Lilly calls out at Eric as she crawls over to him. Eric turns back and looks at Violet. Violet nods her head as her head is lowered. Eric playfully walks toward her. " Lilly! I've missed you so much. " He calls. Eric kneels and picks Lilly up in his arms. Lilly giggles in excitement. Lilly puts her arms around her dad's neck and hugs him. " I love you Lilly, but I have to go... " Eric says sadly. " Why? " Lilly asks. Eric looks up to Violet in concern. " I just have to Lilly, Okay? " Eric asks. Violet rolls over to Eric and Lilly. " But Lilly, You know what? " Violet asks joyfully. Lilly looks over to her mom in curiosity. "Huh?" She asks. "Daddy can come to your birthday on Wednesday. Won't that be fun? " Violet asks. Eric looks Down at Violet and shows a smile of relief. Lilly smiles and hugs Eric tightly. "Yay!" She says excited. 

Eric looks over at Violet and mouths: " Thank you. " Violet nods her head sincerely.
