i got her name around my ring finger
with a band above it
she wore this most luxurious dress i had ever seen
and every tattoo was hidden from the crowd
but i knew them all.
i would always know them all,
since they were imprinted in my heart
as they were on her body.
i got to hold her close,
her hand in mine,
mine on her waist.
i got to promise to love her forever
to kiss her and make her mine
and i got to be
hers.
and then,
on her ring finger
i saw in place of anything incredibly expensive,
my name,
with a band above it.
"i love you."
i whispered to her,
so nobody else could hear,
because these were only words she was meant to hear.
she smiled,
because she would never admit
that she liked the adoration.
yet if anyone had asked,
she was the only one,
i had ever loved.
