When the dark witch returned she felt satisfied. Ebony had to be dead by then, but her look of triumph vanished into a sneer when she found her daughter alive and talking to the hunter.

Her face grew red and her eyes flashed a deep gold. She looked up towards the sky searching for that bloody bird. Using a spell her mother taught her she called the crow to meet her, now.

It very quickly flew to the dark witch, not wanting another beak full of shadow magic. It landed beside her on a twisted tree branch and cleaned it's white beak of fish scales and then stared at her.

The dark witch wiped her shadows at the bird. It jumped out of the way of the oncoming slice of darkness and cawed at her.
"I told you! I told you! Chants and Spells! Charms and Spells will not harm Ebony White. Clothes that shrink and combs that poison. These will not work on the fairest! The Fairest in the land!" It took off then in a single wing beat, disappearing into the forest.

She almost sent a spell after it, however, Ebony now saw her mother was back and rushed over to hug her tightly.
"Oh mother." She cried burying her face into her mother's velvet covered chest. "When you left I stayed by the stream and was waiting for you, but soon after a little girl found me. She gave me a beautiful comb and I combed her hair. But when she started on my hair and left suddenly I felt terribly ill. I think the little girl was trying to kill me and the comb she used was poisoned. But the kind fish in the stream washed the poison from my hair. I thanked then greatly and then ran straight to the hunter." Ebony said this very quickly and little tears dotted her eyes.

After Ebony was done she pulled away from her mother. The dark witch held the smile on her heart shaped face but inside she was a storm. Again Ebony had called upon animals to help her escape her death.

The dark witch thought of a plan while calling the hunter, telling them both it was time to leave for home. And when they entered the village she told Ebony to walk ahead of them. At first it didn't seem like Ebony was going to listen, but she was a kind person and went off to smile at the dirty villagers.

"What can I assist you with, Madam?" The hunter spoke low.

"I need you to obey my orders." The dark witch than went to explain her plan for her daughter. The hunter didn't bat an eyelash as she agreed.
