The dwarf was returning home when he stumbled across a rabbit pelt. And the further he walked the more he found. When he started across a small creek he found other pelts of different but small animals. The dark woods had again taken more from him.

He'd been hunting for a while now and was empty handed. Hadn't found anything to catch and take back home except a handful of animal pelts. He grew angry, picked up a skin of a squirrel and threw it ahead of him.

A little gasp sounded when the pelt landed on the other side of a thorn bush. The dwarf slowly crept around the bush getting closer to the tall oak tree and small bundle beneath it with his axe ready to swing.

Instead of a creature with claws and fangs and strong jaws he found a scared little lady. Her gown was made of fine silk but was torn and dirty. Her night black matted hair was shiny and reflected the moon's light. And the little ladies skin was paler than a moon stone but tarnished by dark smudges around her mouth, chest and hands. Her eyes that were darker than the darkest ruby weren't fearful as she watched the dwarf come closer.

The little lady stood up to face the dwarf and as she did she towered over him.
"Hello." She said. Her voice didn't falter as she curtsied. "My name is Ebony White."

The dwarf held his axe high, threatening the little lady.
"Ye be the evil witches daughter. Ye be gone from me forest or I will cut thee in two." The dwarf told her, taking a threatening step forward.

The little lady held up her little hands and crouched down before him.
"No please. I'm running from my mother. She wants to kill me and now I must hide in this forest and flee from my own home. Can you help me?" She pleaded. "I'm all alone and dreadfully hungry."

The dwarf was careful to trust the little lady's words. She was the daughter of the evil witch who cursed his friends. Could he trust the evil witches offspring?
"Ye wouldn't hurt any of me friends? Ye would protect us against thee mother if need be?" The dwarf asked.

The little lady jumped to her feet and clapped her dirty hands.
"Yes. Yes I can protect you. I can clean and cook as well. Thank you." The dwarf huffed at her.

He detested all creatures that could summon the ancient ways and use magic to their will. It had caused his people enough pain. But he couldn't stand another night of food cooked for him by that idiot dwarf he called a friend.

"Ye can start helping by picking up these pelts. It will do good to have them." He huffed at her again.

Looking around her the little lady started picking up the dead skins of animals. Once her arms were full and she could not carry another the dwarf lead the little lady towards the mountains.
