The witch flung out her magic, her shadows finding the bird and tearing it into bloody pieces.

When she righted her self again the witch looked up and saw her daughter bend down and pick up the apple. Her daughter wiped the apple on her bloody dress, smiled sweetly and went to take a bite. But she froze before the apple could touch her blood stained mouth and slowly held the apple out towards the witch.
"How do I know you didn't poison this apple?" She asked.

The witch had expected her daughter would ask such a question. With a sweet smile of her own the witch took the apple from Ebony's hand and took a small bite from the white flesh of the bitter half. She chewed for a moment before swallowing it.

Her daughter had been right to question her, because the apple had been poisoned by a very strong spell. But it was only the red sweet half, Ebony's favourite half, they was poisoned. Not the white bitter half that the witch was careful to bite into.
After taking another calculated bite from the bitter, non poisoned half, she handed the apple back to Ebony who only smiled and shook her head.
"See child. There is nothing wrong with-" her words were cut off as her throat began to swell shut and her blood began to boil underneath her blackening skin. But this couldn't be happening to her. She hadn't eaten from the sweet half. But when she looked down at the half eaten apple her eyes widening in fear as she saw the white half in perfect condition and the sweet red half was almost gone and leaking a sticky black goo. With the last of her strength the witch threw the apple at her daughter before collapsing onto the ground clutching at her throat and choking on her own spell.
