Chapter 3 : As Soon As Possible
- Dr. Benjamin Brown's Point of View -
It's 1 am and I am cooking breakfast for my daughter. It is her favorite Bread and Toast with some omelette. I know this is not the right time to cook breakfast, but since our jobs are opposite from normal people's job, our Night or Midnight is actually Early Morning for us, while afternoon time is the time we sleep after returning from the laboratory.
I filled the kettle with water and switched it on, so that by the time she wakes up, she can instantly pour the hot water and make tea for herself.
[Beep Beep, Beep Beep.....]
That was the message sound of my mobile. I took the phone to check what message I got. I usually get unwanted SMS advertisements which I don't feel irritated like my colleagues do. I opened the SMS and I really got shocked. It was an SMS from my BOSS.
"Hello Mr. Brown. I am sorry to disturb you at this time, but can you come to the laboratory as soon as possible ?"
"I am not disturbed sir, I will be there soon.", I replied.
OH GOD!! I just can't believe my boss SMSed me, oh wait he asked me to come to the laboratory as soon as possible, is there something wrong? What is he doing there at this time? He usually visits the laboratory only during important days like national day or independence day or sometimes he even doesn't visit at all.
I should get going, I should reach the laboratory as soon as I can, before that I have to inform my daughter that I am going. I finally got dressed up for the laboratory and got my pass. Staring at the pass, I also remembered that Eric should be present in order to enter the laboratory. I took my phone and dialed Eric's number and was waiting for him to pick up.
Eric," Hello?"
"Eric, it's me Dr. Brown"
Eric,"Oh hello Doctor, what's the matter, is there something wrong....."
"Eric, our Boss has reached our laboratory, I need you to reach the laboratory as soon as possible ok", I said.
"Wait now?", he said "It is to early Doctor?"
"I know Eric, but our boss is there already, we have to be there soon, he is waiting for me.", I said.
"OK Doctor, I will be there as soon as possible", he said.
"Thank you Eric, I will see you soon.", I hung up after I said it.
I felt pity for Eric, he has to be there every single day. Even if one of us was absent, he has to be present. He should be having lots of stress , I am sure, because I also shout at him every day for being with my daughter and he never fights back. Maybe I should stop shouting at him and cheer him up. He anyway does comes to the laboratory for us every day. Maybe I should leave these love birds have their time. At least my daughter can make him smile. I have to let them be happy together. My daughter does not cross the limit, and I trust her. I do trust Eric to.
I went to April's room to inform her that I am going to the laboratory now, I informed her what happened, and she was shocked that I was going to the laboratory earlier than before. She then informed me that she will be a little late because she wants to sleep more.
I kissed her forehead and told her to sleep well, and I left.

- Eric Winslow's Point of View -
I was one hour late since the time Dr. Brown called me. When I reached the floor number 4, I could see Dr. Brown was angry at me for being late. But he didn't shout at me, instead he was just giving me way to open the door which needs my pass to access. There was another man standing next to him. He was dark, shorter than Dr. Brown, clean shaved, round face/head, had lost lots of hair and wore spectacles that looked similar to Harry Potter's glasses. He was wearing long white coat and a black tie. He is definitely not a man working in this building and definitely not the Boss. He was holding a suitcase which looked similar to those James Bond DVD Collection Suitcases which my ex friend had. It was a grey steel bulky suitcase.
"Who is he?", I asked.
"None of your business, just open the door", said Dr. Brown.
"I don't let any outsiders inside unless I know who they are", I said.
"Eric....", shouted Dr. Brown.
"It's okay Dr. Brown, Hello mister Eric, I am Doctor Sundar Kumar, I am a scientist like him.", said the man.
"Hello doctor, what is in the suitcase?", I asked.
"Eric...", shouted Dr. Brown angrily.
"Dr. Brown, calm down, I will handle this", he said to Dr. Brown and continued to answer my question,"Mr. Eric, Dr. Brown is working on a nuclear device which can be really helpful for this entire world, so I have brought some of my inventions which Mr. Knowles wants it to be added to Dr. Brown's Nuclear Device."
"Who is Mr. Knowles?", I asked.
"What is the addition for?", asked Dr. Brown at the same time I asked the man.
"Eric, Mr. Justin Knowles is the man I am working for, our boss.", said Dr. Brown and now he was expecting for the reply for his question he had asked to Dr. Sundar.
"It is to make your work finish as fast as possible, Mr. Knowles wants it to be completed before new year. Sorry to tell you this, but he kind of feels that your work is so slow.", said Dr. Sundar.
"My work is so slow because if I complete it fast, it could end up becoming a nuclear bomb.", said Dr. Brown.
"I know that Dr. Brown, that's why he had asked my help to create this additional components, which would complete your nuclear device as fast as possible, so you can give it to Mr. Knowles as fast as possible.", said Dr. Sundar.
"Ok Dr. Sundar but I will have to check it before I can add it to the device.", said Dr. Brown.
"That is not needed Dr. Brown, it has been checked and altered to fit your nuclear device so that it can be completed faster.", said Dr. Sundar.
"Ok but I still have to check, and how do you know it will fit the device I created", asked Dr. Brown.
"We have got the blueprint for the construction instructions you had provided it to Mr. Knowles, which he asked you for it so that you can have this laboratory to work for yourself. And we keep getting updated by your online video logs where you ask other scientists help to make this nuclear device come to life. That is how we got to make these additional devices for your nuclear device. And if you wanted to check it then your work will become more slow Dr. Brown. He wants it to be completed before new year, and only two weeks left for the new year to start.", replied Dr. Sundar.
"Alright, I will add it, now Mr. Eric, what are you standing there for? Open the damn door", said Dr. Brown.
I almost forgot that I had to open the door, because I was busy listening to their conversation even though it has no use for me in knowing about it.
Before I could scan my pass I asked both of them, "So where is Mr. Knowles? I was informed that he was here waiting for us."
"He has left half an hour before you reached here", replied Dr. Brown.
"Oh, oh, ok...", I said.
I felt bad that I made Mr. Knowles wait long, maybe if I came early he would have been waiting here , or maybe he was busy to go somewhere else.
The scanner gave an Access Approved and they both entered the laboratory. I wanted to see what where they doing, but I was kind of urgent to go to the toilet, so I left.
