Gosh, it began with Kira just admiring the girl, and now, she had slept on her shoulder and Malia was buying her coffee. If she didn't know any better, she'd say it was a date. But, she did know better, and Malia probably just had friendship in her mind, no one ever thinks that the girl could love the other girl.
At least the were enjoying themselves. Most likely, also annoying the tired barista at Starbucks.
"So you're doing English at NYU?" Kira nodded at Malia's impressed face, "That's so cool,"
"It's a lot of work," Kira nodded, taking a sip from the hot chocolate that Malia had bought her. "But I'm really enjoying it. What are you doing then?"
"Oh I'm taking a..." Malia trailed off, trying to remember what Stiles had told her people had called it, "I think it's called a gap...thing?"
"A gap year?" Kira smiled. Malia was adorable, Kira was entranced by the way she moved her hands when she spoke, the way her curled hair fell around her slightly tanned face, the way her entire face looked like it smiled when she laughed.
"Yeah, that's it," she replied, feeling a bit idiotic. Here she was, talking to a university student who was majoring in English, and she couldn't even remember what a gap year was called. Sure, she might have been taken out of the human world for eight years, but she'd love to be as smart as Kira. She definatly wouldn't be as modest as Kira was if she had her brain, though.
"So, have you got a job," Kira started, trying to sound casual as she asked The Question, "boyfriend...?"
"No, no, not at all, I don't really like guys," she said quickly, shaking her head. Then she realised how forward and desperate she sounded. "I mean, uh, they're okay-"
"Me neither," Kira said, interuppting her with a grin and hopeful eyes. Malia's eyes grew wide, and she tried to hide her excitement underneath the flutter of butterflies happening in her stomach. They both held each other's gaze for a little longer than necessary, but neither minded.
This time, it was Malia's turn to blush and turn away. "Um, yeah, I have a job as a personal trainer at a gym, in California,"
"No kidding! I lived in California for a year or so. Where are you from?" Kira brushed over the awkwardness with a bright smile, taking another sip from her drink.
"Beacon Hills? It's not too well known-"
"That is where I come from! Did you go to Beacon High? Maybe you were in some of my classes,"
"Uh, I went there for a bit but I was..." Malia struggled to remember an excuse, "I was homeschooled for most of my education," she smiled at Kira, trying to shuffle closer to Kira by shifting her bag on the couch. Malia didn't want to ask, but it felt like the question was going to burst out of her. She tapped her fingers against the mug of her drink and ran her tongue around her mouth. "So, do you have, anyone?"
A sharp intake of breath was heard from next to her, but Kira just coughed to cover it up- it was that, or she choked on her hot chocolate from the surprising question. Malia bit back a laugh.
"No. " Kira studied her mug, blinking a little too much. "How about you?" Malia shook her head with a small, satisfied smile.
"Do you want another drink?" Malia offered, loudly, to interrupt the awkward silence between them.
"Let me buy you one this time,"
