Zack's POV
"Zachary come in." said grandad as I was outside my dad's office. My gosh, now that's scary. He has never been that formal. Only a few seconds later as I told a seat, my dad uttered, "Zack, son, adopting you was the best decision that I have ever made in my life and I have never ever regretted a single moment of it. You have always filled our lives with happiness and joy and we could not have asked for a better son than you. Even when you opposed on working with me
and continue the family business I let it go through because I understand that your friends have a huge impact on your life and you owe a lot to them. And also you guys put on a lot of love and effort together for this company to reach where it is today." It's true that I was adopted but I have never once made it noticeable to me. They have never made any differences between me and V. We always got the same treats, the same punishments and we were loved equally.
"Zack since you became our son, we offered you a lot and we tried to fulfil all your requests and demands and I hope I was able to do that correctly." Asked my dad. "Of course Dad, you have given me more than I have ever asked for. You have always provided me with things that other kids would die for and I am so thankful for that." I replied in a grateful and thanking tone. After a long pause, he proceeded. "Zack, your mom and I have never asked you for any favour before that, so we just wish that you would fulfil our grant and make our wish come true. Can you please do us a last favour?" I turned to my mum and she was looking strange. She had tears in her eyes, but I could not really identify them but they were certainly not of sadness. She seemed excited, well I think. She is hard to understand sometimes.
My parents were truly heroes. They adopted me when I was seven. My parents died in a fire and I was right there with them when the fire broke. I saw them die in front of me. Back then my dad(Mr.Martin-my current dad) was my dad's associate. By chance, that day he came to pick up my dad from home and saw the fire. He rescued me but was unable to save my mom and dad. He even nearly lost his life while saving them but it was too late, they were already burnt and dead. That day I lost my parents and he lost his best friend and business associate. Sometimes, I still have nightmares about it, I still imagine myself dying in that fire or sometimes I see my parents laughing at me, and other times I see them look down on me feeling ashamed that I did not save their lives and blaming me of being a wimp. Honestly, my friends were the ones that helped me moved through that rough phase even though sometimes it still comes back to me and I can't help feeling miserable. But I must say, everyone has really been supporting to me, they make sure not to mention people dying in a fire, or parents dying leaving their kids behind. But obviously sometimes it gets out naturally from Daniel's mouth and then he has to be stop but apart from that, they are all so understanding. They also make sure that I do not have direct contact with fire or fiery effects because that day left a scar in my life and thus, I have a phobia of fire.
Wooow, so I zoned out. But seriously though, I am so grateful. " Mom, Dad you can ask me anything, and I promise I will use my entire life if needed to fulfil your desire," I replied honestly. "Zack, honey you know that you're old enough now and your granny and grandpa are turning old." My mom said turning to them. "Well, you are old enough and you are not getting any younger so we want you to marry Evelyn." I somehow knew this was coming but I didn't expect that to come that soon. Well, now I'm FUCKED. Well, fortunately, I know that Evy will refuse cause I already told her how I was against marriage and the end of my bachelor life, being carefree and independent. "We are now only waiting for your consent." Only my consent? What do they mean? Did she accept already? That bitch? Traitor, did she say yes to marrying me? What the hell?
I look up and I met my mom's eyes. They were shining with happy tears. She held her hands together to her chest eagerly waiting for my response. I felt small, I couldn't back out now. I can't be the monster that removes that joy from her. I was desperate. I had no other choice. 'Yes, I ... I will marry her." Just then, Mr and Mrs Williams entered the study room with a smile on their faces. Idiots, they have probably been plotting that all along, dumping their spoiled brat onto me as if I was some kind of expensive buoy that would be her saviour for the rest of her life. I heard my mum squeak and she ran onto me to give me a tight hug. At that moment I was totally dumbfounded, I had no reaction and my mind was just going wild about what is going to happen now. What about my bachelor life?
