Link and (Y/N) headed toward all the other shrines as the slate unlocked more of its hidden abilities. (Y/N) made fun of Link when he accidentally used Cryonis the wrong way and froze himself. You wouldn't think it was possible, but Link is special that way. What concerned both of them was the strange mechanical device that shoots beams at them.
(Y/N) protected Link at the last second before he was shot in the chest. From then on Link promised to be careful when exploring the shrines. They were walking towards the last shrine the Old Man told them to explore before giving them a paraglider.
(Y/N) walked beside Link, sharpening a rusted old sword along the way with a sharp rock. "Do you think the Old Man was lying to us when he said he'd give us the paraglider?"
Link looked straight ahead the whole way. "I believe him. Something tells me he's trustworthy."
Even though Link said that a nagging feeling was bugging (Y/N). No one, besides themselves and the Old Man, was here in the plains. Not a town or smoke from a house in sight. She didn't know how big Hyrule is, but there had to be some sort of civilization out there.
"Hey, Link," (Y/N) said, "haven't you found it odd that we haven't come across any villages yet?"
"It seems like a small plain. There shouldn't be a village with the number of monsters we've been killing."
Link did have a fair point. The more monsters, the less chance of there being a village. At the mention of a village, ruins came into view. Link jogged closer to them and started to climb the crumbling walls. (Y/N) sighed and started to catch up.
The ruins formed a barrier of some sort, like walls that kept something or, or out.
"Link, you shouldn't be far off without me!"
"I'll be fine!" Link shouted back.
That boy was impossible. Being wild was in his veins, no doubt about it. He always started the adventure ahead of himself and left (Y/N) in the dust. When she started to float up, she heard a beeping sound not too far away. She wondered what could be making that sound until she caught her eyes on the biggest machine she found yet.
It glowed a menacing red as it pointed its beam of light at Link's chest. Link stood there, frozen until the beeping grew rapidly. Link made a dash towards a cutoff point, but he wasn't going to make it in time. (Y/N) dived head down and dashed forward, blocking the projection of the beam. It bounced back towards the machine, but the beam did damage to her. She flew against a wall and smacked her back against it, the wall behind spreading cracks like a spider web. Link dashed forward and bent down on one knee.
He raised her body and lifted her up in his arms. "Are you alright?"
The world was spinning inside her head because she totally caught unaware of what just happened. "I... I think so..."
Link steady on her feet, watching as she stood swaying sideways. He sighed and crushed the foreskin between the bridge of his nose. "This is my fault... I need to be waiting for you instead of diving in head first."
(Y/N) shoved him away and walked in paces towards the last shrine. "You should have... thought of that first..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It took them an hour, but they finally finished the last shrine. It was silent as the walk back to the temple was becoming awkward. Link felt bad but didn't know what to say. She was powerful and didn't need any help, but he was reckless enough to have her rescue him... three times now on their adventure.
Link looked up at the sky above him as he climbed the top of the roof to the temple of time. He didn't know what it was, but he was getting too anxious to be sitting and taking his time. Each time he looks to the castle a sense of dread threatens to case fear inside his heart, but the courage inside was too strong to let it get in the way.
