“Hey mom!” I exclaimed, hugging my mom and kissing her on the cheeks while Valencia greeted my sister.
“I can’t believe that you two are going to be married in less than a month! Oh my gosh! I finally get another sister!” Hilary squealed, hugging me and jumping up and down.
“Seriously! What took you two so long?” Whitney laughed, giving me a quick hug before sitting on the park bench next to Valencia.
“I love my grandpuppies, but I want some cute little grandchildren to spoil rotten then give back to you. You better be getting on that soon.” Mom warned, watching as Bella chased Herman around the park.
“Trust me, that’s happening soon.” Valencia laughed, pecking me on the lips quickly before chasing Stella around the park and throwing her toy for her. Hilary and Whitney soon joined Valencia in chasing Stella around when the game of catch turned into a game of keep away.
I sat down next to my mom enjoy the cold November air. I was so glad my family had gotten together for Thanksgiving. Valencia and I had been too busy in the past few years to have a real Thanksgiving and this would be our first before V and I became our own family unit. Breathing heavily and laughing my sisters and Valencia came back over to where my mom and I were sitting.
“So, Debbie, I really was going to ask you earlier, but I figured I’d leave the best part of the wedding for last.” Valencia said, breaking the comfortable silence that had fallen around us. “I don’t have my dad or even my mom to walk me down the isle at my wedding, so I was wondering if you would? You’ve completely supported me these part several years and I would be honored if you would.
“Oh Valencia!” My mom said tears welling up in her eyes. “I would love to.”
I smiled to myself as I saw my mom embracing Valencia. I was so grateful that my family had so completely embraced Valencia. Every time I saw Valencia with my family I knew I had met my soul mate.

I stood in the kitchen with Debbie, cooking and finishing up Thanksgiving dinner while Michael and his sisters chased each other around the house joking around. As much as I loved Michael’s family I couldn’t wait until I had some alone time with Michael. I had so much that I wanted to share with him before anyone else found out.
“So how soon can I expect my grandbabies to be born?” Debbie asked, pulling the turkey out of the oven and declaring it done.
“Trust me, you will be getting them very soon.” I laughed, putting my apple pie in the oven where the turkey had been. “Come on, let’s go feed the children.” I said loudly, teasing Michael, Hilary, and Whitney who were all collapsed on the ground on top of each other after running around the house.
Later that night, Michael and I were sitting on the couch eating our late ‘dinner’ of apple pie and ice cream I couldn’t hold back the news any longer.
“I’m late!” I blurted, glancing up at Michael’s face, worrying about his reaction.
“Where do you have to go?” Michael said sleepily.
I staid silent knowing he just needed a minute to process. “Wait. Wait…You mean like late?” Michael said, smiling broadly down at me.
“Two weeks. I haven’t taken a test yet though so it could be nothing.” I said, smiling back at him. “I have one waiting for me to take it though.”
“Go! Do it! Now! Please!” Michael said, kissing me hard between every word.
I grinned and went to the bathroom to take care of my business. The next three minutes waiting for the tiny pink plus sign to show up were excruciating, but once it did, Michael picked me up and kissed me, causing me to smile into the kiss.
