Kitten and I ended up falling asleep on the couch. When I wake up she's slobbering on the couch and someone has draped a cover over the both of us. I slip out from under the covers and tuck it around Kitten. Stretching, I make my way to the kitchen then make a fresh pot of coffee
"Good morning." A deep, sexy voice startles me.
"G-Good morning Alpha." I turn to face my mate with a cup of coffee in my hands.
"It's just Jax to you." Jax seems the slightest bit upset that I've called him Alpha, he pouts and Goddess is it sexy.
"Ok Just Jax." the corners of Jax's beautiful mouth turn up ever so slightly.
Jax slowly stalks towards me. Stopping right in front of me, I can feel his breath on my face. Without taking his eyes off me, he reaches around my body and grabs the coffee pot. I let out a sigh as he pours himself a cup. He sets his cup and the pot down. Jax brushes my hair off my left shoulder and pulls my t-shirt off my shoulder. His head finds its way to the crook of my neck. His nose skims my neck and sends tiny bolts of electricity through my body.
"Why? Why would you run from me?" He whispers so low that it's barely audible.
Before I can answer him, Kitten walks in the kitchen. Suddenly I'm very aware of how close he is. Heat rises to my cheeks and I push him away. He whines, hurt, before grabbing his cup and making his way out of the room. Sighing, I run my fingers through my hair.
Over the course of the day I only see Jax twice and my heart breaks both times. He has these sad puppy dog eyes that are just so full of hurt. Kitten shows me to my bedroom. As in MY bedroom as in I won't be forced to share a room with Jax. I'm both relieved and disappointed. Does he not want to share a room with me? Is he trying to distance himself? He is just right next door to my room so I guess it isn't a huge deal.
Kitten's room is across the hall from me. We plop down on her bed and she fires up her laptop. I gotta say, this pack treats the slaves very nicely. She hands me a credit card that Jax gave her so I could buy anything I need or want. My heart breaks a little again. After a few hours of Kitten urging me not to worry about how much money I'm spending, we head back to the living room and pick up where we left off, watching random movies.
This time after we finish watching movies I relieve Kitten of duty and she heads off to bed. I rummage through the cupboards until I find some stuff to make hot chocolate which has always been my absolute favorite. Taking my drink with me, I head towards my room but stop short. My mate's amazing smell stops me right in front of his room. Down the hall light is still coming out from under the door to his study.
I slowly open his door and I'm overwhelmed with the smell. It's heaven. I trail my fingers on the wall until I reach the closet. Throwing it open, I rummage until I find a plain white t-shirt. I set down my drink on his nightstand before slipping out of my t-shirt and then into his. It smells just like him."I like you wearing my clothes." His voice makes me jump and spin around to face him.
"I-I'm sorry Alpha." What an idiotic thing to do without asking.
"What did I say about the Alpha thing?" He pouts and takes a few steps towards me.
"Sorry Just Jax." The corners of his mouth twitches.
Jax takes a few more steps until he's right in front of me. He pulls my hair out of his shirt and puts it down my back. His nose skims my neck then he places a kiss right where his nose touched. I have to bite my lip to stifle a moan.
"What happened?" His tone is softer.
"What.. what do you mean?" He pulls away too soon and turns on the lamp on his nightstand.
"The bruises. I noticed them the first time we met but I've barely talked to you since you ran away." He starts to get those sad puppy dog eyes again when he mentions me running away.
"I-I um i-it's not that bad." I look down at the floor and twiddle my thumbs.
"It is that bad. I want to know who put their hands on my mate." His eagerness to protect me makes me melt.
"Jason." It's barely a whisper but I know he heard it.
"I'm going to rip him to shreds." He starts shaking with anger and to be honest, his reaction is hot.
I reach up on my tip toes and give him a peck on the lips. "A bit protective aren't we?" I giggle a bit at the shock on his face.
"You have the softest lips." He grabs the sides of my face gently and kisses me long and passionately. "I could kiss you all day."
"You're the first person I've ever willingly kissed." I blush and glance at the ground.
"Can you do me a favor?" He looks hesitant.
"Of course Al- I mean Jax."
"I love hearing you say my name." He sighs in content. "Will you sit in my office with me? Just for a little while? I have some more work to do and your presence is very calming."
"Sure." He takes my hand and kisses my knuckles.
I quickly grab my hot chocolate then he leads me down the hall and into his study. I plop down on one of the black leather couch and he takes his seat behind the desk. Sipping on my drink, I take a look around the office. He has a mahogany desk with a state of the art computer on it along with files littered everywhere. Two black leather couches face each other on opposite sides of the room. Half of the room has a bookcases built into the walls. Multiple filing cases are built into the wall as well. And last but not least, there's a grand window behind the desk.
"Can I ask you something?" My whisper is barely audible.
"Of course." He takes of his reading glasses and gives me his undivided attention.
"Why did you give me own room? I mean did you not want to share a room with me?" I glance down at my cup.
"I would love to spend every second of every day with you. I just assumed you'd be more comfortable with your own room since we don't know each other well. I mean if you want you could sleep in my room." His voice sounds a little hopeful.
"I was just curious, I moved in with Jason the day he turned eighteen and I didn't have a choice to have my own bedroom." I shrug nonchalantly.
"Can I ask you something?" I nod. "Did he mate with you?"
"No! No, I've never mated with anyone before." He sighs with relief and visibly relaxes. "I was um waiting for my mate."
"I've been waiting for you my whole life."
