"Of course Rog, you know I'll be there. I never would want to miss a smile concert." Harper tells her best friend of 21 years.
"You know your the best Harp, like literally the best."
"Oh I know it," this causes chuckles from both ends of the phone. "Anyway Rog, I have to get back to work. Even if I hate it, I need to pay rent."
"Bye Harp!"
"Bye Rog!"
Roger and Harper have been best friends since birth. Their moms had been best friends, and when you only live 10 feet away from each other, you become best friends aswell. They had grown being each other's siblings. When Roger got to drunk at parties and needed a ride, Harper showed up with her car and helped roger back to his flat. Or when Harper's job became to much for her to handle, Roger came over with ice cream to help her calm down from the stress.
Though sometimes, Harper has to admit, she crushes hard on Roger. But she hates herself for doing it, it's Roger, her best friend, he was like a brother, nothing more. But those eyes kill her, and what makes her more upset is the fact that Roger gets every girl he ever wants. Yet she hates it that it's not her.
"Hey you alright Harper?" Mary shakes Harper trying to get her out of her daze.
"Yes, I'm totally fine. I was just thinking about the smile gig tonight. Want to come?"
"Of course I would loved to come. You know I would never turn you down." Mary reminds Harper.
Their boss comes and yells at them to get back to work. No one but Harper knows about her crush on Roger. She doesn't want to tell Mary or Sugar about her crush on Roger, she would just feel ashamed. The rest of the work day goes by slowly. Normally the store is packed with people, but today is one of the slow days.
Near the end of her shift, Harper sees Sugar barging into the shop. Her brother John following just behind. "YOU GUYS! There is a smile concert tonight, want to go?"
Mary and Harper just giggle at the girl. Sugar looks at the two confused. "Oh Sugar, we already know! Roger already told me about," Harper laughed at the girl.
"Ugh, that is so annoyinnngggggg!"
"What is Sugar?"
"The fact that you and Roger are so close but yet you two have never tried dating."
"Roger and I are best friends. Basically siblings. Nothing more!" Harper says will her cheeks blush madly.
"Your face says otherwise," John pipes up.
"Real funny John. Why is it that you follow Sugar around like a dog?"
"Making sure she doesn't get hurt like the idiot she is." Harper laughs and Sugar slaps him.
"You know John, I heard you play bass. That's pretty cool," Mary says.
"yeah, but most of the time I can't even practice it without being interrupted. *cough* sugar *cough*." We all laugh and Sugar slaps John again.
"Well I'm off my shift now. See you all at the gig!"
Harper grabs her coat and tells her boss she's leaving for the day. He waves her off and she leaves to go to her car. Let's hope this works, she thinks as she tries to start up the piece of junk. The engine starts rumbling and she makes her way to her apartment. Humming 'Doing all right' under her breath, she makes her way up to her apartment. Just across the hall from a special Roger Taylor's apartment. Apparently Roger heard her come by his door and comes out to greet his best friend.
"HELLLLLLLOOOOO HARPPPP!" He basically screams down Harper's ear.
"You know one day you are going to make me deaf right Rog?"
"Can't hear you! I'm already going deaf from the drums," Roger says sarcastically. He whips out his lighter and a cigarette from his pocket. Harper scoffs as he lights his cigarette.
"You know that is disgusting, you are literally making me want to throw up. I don't know why the hell you smoke Rog, one day it might catch up to you." Roger laughs as Harper plugs her nose.
"What are you talking about? Plus don't you think I look bad ass?"
"I think you look dumb ruining your lungs like that," Harper remarks digging in her pockets for her keys. She really needed to get out of the smoke infested hallway. "I have to get away from you as fast as I can. I don't want to go to your gig tonight smelling like smoke and then being turned away from all the smoking hot boys."
"I'll make sure no one, I repeat no one touches my little Harp," he says breathing all his smoke on me.
"Gross! Why do you even care about me going out and finding a new love interest when you do it every night?" Harper asks. She finally found her keys and turned away from Roger to open her door.
"That's different," Harper gives him her bitch face, "You didn't let me finish before judging me. It's different because you're looking for someone to love, I'm looking for someone to have fun with."
Harper scoffs and goes through her doorway, flicking off Roger on her way in. He chuckles before returning to his apartment. Harper closes her door and throws her coat on the couch. She heads into the kitchen looking for something quick to eat. She needed to get dressed fast if she wants to make the gig on time. She quickly eats the leftover soup her mom gave her and goes to the closet.
"What am I going to wear?" Harper asks her self as she looks into her closet. She finds a yellow zip up polo in her closet that she never has worn before. "I can make that work!" She grabs her jean skirt and long burgundy socks. Once she has her outfit ready she puts on her coat, and brown little boots before leaving.
"Looking good Harp!" Roger says as he walks out of his apartment to.
"Looking average Rog!" He scoffs and pretends to look hurt. They walk to Harper's car conversing a little bit. "Do you need a ride or something Roger?"
"Yes Please! The van broke down and I took it to my dad to see if he could see what was wrong with it."
"Fine. Hope in," Harper says. She puts on her glasses and then starts the hunk of junk. They take off their way to the local pub Roger was playing at. Once they arrive they hop out and walk to where Brian and Tim have the stuff set up already. "What's up Bri Guy and Tim?" Harper doesn't really like Tim that much. She finds him as a gold digging man whore.
"Nothing much Lee, why don't you go find your friends in the pub? I think you need a good spot so you can watch your man bang on his drums," Brian says. She laughs at him and wave them goodbye. Then, she hugs Roger and tells him good luck before going and finding Sugar and Mary. They were in a really bad spot since it was quite packed tonight. Harper grabs a drink before heading over to them.
"Drinking already Harper?" Mary asked.
"Only way I can get through all the groupies tonight," Harper says sarcastically. But it's true, there are some really annoying people in the crowd already. "Hey Sugar, where's your puppy?" She says noting to the fact that John is missing.
"He is at home. He says its the perfect time to practice since I'm gone," She scoffs.
Tim, Brian, and Roger all walk on stage. Everyone goes quiet and turns their attention to the group. Time for the show to begin! That's all for today darlings! Thanks for reading the story!
