Jadeite

It was the test day. Shura had them in the most compatible pairs.

Up first was Kamiki and Shiemi. They danced together. Kamiki looked like a shrine maiden the way she swayed like wheat in a field. Shiemi was like a flower dancing in the wind. She twirled, moving lightly on her feet and dancing around Kamiki like a nymph from mythology until she was dipped gracefully by the purple haired girl.

Everyone waited, but they didn't fuse. Shiemi didn't seem upset at all, but Kamiki was obviously annoyed. "Damn it! We danced in sync! I don't get it." She huffed.

"You have to feel a connection, girly." Shura grunted.

"I don't feel anything!" Izumo complained.

"I do...." Shiemi mumbled. The rest of the class felt for her as she rejoined them, looking down. Rin grimaced and patted the girl on the shoulder sympathetically.

"Konekomeru and Noriko!"

The two did a sort of ballet- ballroom dance until Shura stopped them. "Good work, but don't be so bashful." Shura told them.

"Shima and Okumura." She called.

Rin tried not to blush blue as he took Shima's hand, then they separated and began to dance. Rin danced on his toes at first–similar to ballet, making his way over to his partner. Shima did the same. He held out his hands and Rin took them. From there, it turned more into a really graceful, but still alluring salsa with swaying hips and graceful spins and finally, they finished with a smooth dip, like Kamiki and Shiemi.

The whole class was enamored. The two didn't fuse, but Rin felt warmth in his gem, and another source of warmth coming from the body above his–Shima's gem–for a second before it faded.

Rin couldn't say he was super disappointed after his last experience with fusion, but before the two could walk back to join their classmates, Kirigakure-sensei stopped them.

"Do that again. And this time, don't think–just feel." She instructed, grinning.

So, they danced once more. It wasn't the same as the first time. The fusion dance was never exactly the same. But this was different in an entirely other way. This time, their movements flowed together better, more graceful, more sensual. They touched each other more comfortably than before. Goosebumps raced along Rin's arms. He felt himself melting into the dance and into Shima's arms. A part of him was nervous as memories from the last time he'd fused with someone came up, but he didn't dwell on those memories. Shima was his friend. He wasn't doing this to hurt him or force him into submission.

At the end of the dance, Rin was pulled to the pink haired boy, their foreheads touching.

And suddenly, they were no longer Rin and Shima.

Luminescent green eyes blinked open to see the class ogling him. They all looked shorter than before.

Kirigakure-sensei grinned wide. Jadeite was beautiful. He had the same androgynous body type as Rin. His gem was in his chest.

Jadeite was a tall, slim creature, with green eyes that glowed in the light. The irises had a swirling bright green in them. He had four arms and long, nimble fingers. His dark green hair was long and had rings of jadeite braided into it. There was a long, sleek tail with spikes protruding from the end swaying in the air behind him. His clothes had also changed from the standard school uniform that both Rin and Shima had been wearing.

Much of the pale green skin showed through the outfit–a leotard that split in the middle, sides, and hips. A sheer material made up a short skirt while light green leggings and dark green boots covered his bottom half.
His gem was placed in the center of his chest, gleaming in the light.

"Hello there. You're a Jadeite, yeah?" Kirigakure-sensei greeted politely. She didn't know this one's mannerisms yet. Had to be careful. The green gem smiled softly and nodded.

"Holy shit! Of all people to fuse after a couple weeks, Shima was the lucky one?!" Suguro exclaimed.

"Step up your game, Ruby." Jadeite cackled, the sound reminiscent of Rin. Said Ruby flushed bright red.

"You're beautiful!" Shiemi ran up to Jadeite excitedly, cheeks flushed green. She hugged his middle and the fusion smiled.

"Thank you, Shiemi."

The blonde giggled as Jadeite took her hand and spun her around. She danced with him for a nice moment before Kirigakure-sensei stopped them.

"Alright, let's get you all home before all three of you fuse." She joked.

"I'll have to keep watch on some of these kids to spot some other good matches." She muttered to herself.

Jadeite nodded and stood straight. In seconds, the single tall form split into two and out fell Shima and Rin. Shima landed on his feet while Rin flailed. The Citrine helped the Sapphire up and they exchanged elated smiles before parting.

"He fused with Shima? That's interesting. And what did they make?" Yukio seemed interested in what Shura was saying for once.

"They made a beautiful Jadeite! Shiemi even called him pretty. That Suguro kid flipped his shit!" Shura cackled at the last part.

"That's amazing! How does it feel to fuse?" Yukio wondered. He was a human, so he'd never fuse with anyone, but he was still very curious as to how it worked.

"Well, the fusion dance is a way to ease into it. You have to be in sync. Just let your power mingle with the other's. If the bond is strong enough, you can fuse. But it's not always easy. Some have trouble, depending on their relationship with the partner they dance with." The woman explained, happy to know something Yukio didn't for once. "Sometimes, if you have a strong bond, like if you're family or married, you can just hold hands and fuse. Those are pretty rare though."

"So what do you do during battle with limited time if you have to fuse?" Yukio asked.

"The dance is short, but still contains the feelings and power mingling to fuse. If you just let it flow, it'll work. If you're too stressed or feel too pressured, it won't work. Rin and Shima had to do the dance twice today. Rin was too nervous the first time." Shura recalled.

"I must come by sometime to see Jadeite in the future. Sounds like he's a real piece of work." Yukio decided. Shura grinned.

"He blushed a brilliant green when told he was beautiful by Moriyama." She snickered. Yukio scoffed.

"That's definitely Rin coming through. He can't take a compliment to save his life." Yukio told her knowingly.

"Say, you'll be leading a few missions with them when they're approved to go out in the field for training, maybe you'll see Jadeite then." Shura said.
