Why Have You Brought Me Here?

"Why have you brought me here?" Raoul sings as we climb the spiral staircase.

"We can't go back there!" I sing back, leading him up the staircase.

"We must return!" Raoul replies.

"He'll kill you, his eyes will find us there!" I answer.

"Christine, don't say that!"

"Those eyes that burn!" I warn him.

"Don't even think it!"

"And if he has to kill a thousand men!"

"Forget this waking nightmare!"

"The Phantom of the Opera will kill, and kill again!"

"This Phantom is a fable, believe me, there is no Phantom of the Opera!" Raoul should've realized there is one, days ago.

"My God, who is this man, who hunts to kill?" we sing in unison.

"I can't escape from him, I never will."

"And in this labyrinth, where night is blind, the Phantom of the Opera is here, inside my mind!"

"My God, who is this man, this mask of death!" Raoul follows up with.

"Whose is this voice you hear, with every breath?" he still hasn't picked it up.

"And in this labyrinth, where night is blind, the Phantom of the Opera is here, inside your(my) mind!"

"There is no Phantom of the Opera!" has he been deaf or blind this whole time?

I answer back with, "Raoul, I've been there, to his world of unending night, to a world where the daylight dissolves into darkness, darkness!"

"Raoul, I've seen him, can I ever forget that sight? Can I ever escape that face? So distorted, deformed, it was hardly a face, in that darkness, darkness!"

"But his voice held my spirit with a strange, sweet sound, in that night, there was music in my mind, and through music, my soul began to soar (goes up on high note), and I heard as I never heard before!"

Overlapping my last sentence Raoul sings, "What you heard was a dream and nothing more," he thinks I've gone crazy.

"Yet in his eyes, all the sadness in the world, those pleading eyes, that both threaten and adore," which makes me think of eyes, those golden orbs is the only thing I could see through the slit in his mask.

"Christine, Christine!" Raoul sings softly, grabbing my hands and looking at me.

"Christine!" I hear a voice whisper to me in the wind, and I know it's him.

Now thinking of it, it brings a smile to my face!

"Christine!" I feel Raoul squeeze my hands, snapping me back to reality as I look at him.

"He's in your head, w-we need to get you to a doctor, please Little Lottie, come!" Raoul starts to lead me out off the roof but I stop him.

"Raoul, please, I'm not going crazy!" I tug at his arm, trying to free myself from his grasp but he is adamant.

"Christine, listen to me, we can go get Madam Giry and Meg, then we can talk about it, please, you need help!" Raoul urges me.

"Raoul, please, stop, just leave, I want to be alone!" I yell at him, and that makes him let go of me.

I fall back into the snow, but instead of getting up, I stay on the ground.

Raoul doesn't say anything and I can't quite read his expression but he finally speaks up and says, "You've left me no choice then, Christine, I'm bringing them up here."

"Raoul, why can't you respect my wishes?" I yell at him, snow is soaking through my dress the longer I sit, but I refuse to get up.

"I'm sorry Christine!" he sighs and with that, he up and leaves to get Meg and Madam Giry.

"Whose is that face in shadows? Whose is that face in the mask?" I sing, as I bend over onto the snow, weeping.

Suddenly I feel a gust of wind and a presence standing over me.

Lifting my head up, I see him, it's really him, my Angel of Music!

"My Angel of Music, why have you come to me, my Angel of Music, I don't deserve you, Phantom and Master!" I sing quietly.

"Wandering child, no need to hide, so lost and so helpless, wandering child, no need to fret, your Angel of Music is here!" he sings to me.

He bends down next to me, holding out his hand as I take it and smile through my tears.

"I saw you weeping from shadows, hunched over, you started to cry!"

"Angel of Music, I heard you, stay by my side and guide me, Angel of Music, I was wrong to turn from your guidance!" I sing back to him.

Smiling, he has me stand up.

"My Angel, I've never seen you smile, such a rare sight that it is!" I sing to him as he pulls me into him, hugging me.

Softly I hear him start to cry as he sings, whispering, "Christine, I love you!"

Those four words, he loves me?

Does my Angel love me?

"Y-you love me?" I pull away from the hug, tears start to brim my eyes as I walk away, trying to take it in.

This is my chance.

"Angel of Music said he loves me, can that be so?" I sing out, looking back to where he's standing.

All he does is nod, staring straight at me.

I then hear Raoul, he's coming up with Meg and Giry, oh no!

We need to get out of here, the Phantom looks at me, sensing what I mean he walks over and covers us with his cape as we disappear from the rooftop.
