April 10th

The day of the dance. Miranda and Sky came over at five so we could get ready together. Miranda was going with Mark, they had hit it off after Miranda's sudden kiss. We had went dress shopping a couple of days ago. Sky got a blue dress that matched her eyes. We started with her.

We got started on her hair. We let her bangs hang on her right and left temple, curling the ends of her ponytail. It was beautiful. She put on wedges.

Next was Miranda, who wore a white dress that made her skin shimmer. It was strapless and thin, flowing elegantly at her every movement. The only thing we put on her face was black eyeliner. Her look was finished with some black pumps. Then it was my turn.

I had bought what I thought was the perfect dress, an off white thing. It was absolutely gorgeous. The dress had no straps. The fabric was like silk against my skin, so soft. It clung to my body, making my curves more pronounced then usual. My hair was down, reaching the bottom of my waist. It was curled at the ends. I wore a pair of beige lace shoes, borrowed from my sister.

When we were done, we just sat around in my room waiting for our dates. Our parents didn't want to see us until it was time to go. I paced around, beginning to grow more nervous as the clock on my dresser ticked closer to seven o'clock. Then the bell rang.

Sky and Miranda Rose to their feet instantly, running their hands down their dresses, straightening them. I heard Anna telling us to come downstairs. We glanced at each other nervously, nobody making an effort to open the door. Then Sky sighed and opened it, taking Miranda's hand and mine in each of hers and dragging us out. We all took a deep breath before we turned the corner that would lead us to the top of the steps.

The next thing I knew we were walking down the steps with shy smiles playing on our faces,.greeted with camera flashes. When we made it to the bottom of the steps we stood in front of our dates. They were each wearing identical black tucks. I melted at the sight of August with his hazel eyes popping out at me.

_________

"You are beautiful." August whispered as we moved in a small circle. His hand shook at my waist and he looked to the side of me as he spoke. We stopped moving.

"Thanks." I smiled at him. I was waiting for him to look back at me, but his eyes remained on the punch bowl across the room. "Hey. Earth to August." I called him back to reality. He turned his head.

"Oh. Sorry." he blushed.

"It's fine." he looked back at the punch bowl. I looked too, trying to find what was so interesting about the beverage. But he wasn't looking at the punch . Just to the right of bowl was a couple kissing. I looked down, knowing what he was thinking. "So, uhh, I hear you're trying out for the soccer team." I said, trying to make conversation. He nodded.

It felt so awkward. We started moving again. I stared at him as his eyes flickered to the people around us. I felt bad, I wanted him to talk to me. Was I not entertaining? Suddenly he looked at me and read the confusion on my face.

"What's wrong?" he asked, his eyebrows pulling together.

"It's nothing." I could tell he didn't believe me, but he didn't question any further.

"Why don't we go outside?" he suggested. As my confusion subsided, I began to feel the humid air and warm bodies around me. I nodded. He took my hand and led me to the bleachers outside.

The fresh air was satisfying. I breathed slowly as I took in everything around me. Cars, balloons, ribbons, and couples. I guess we weren't the only ones who craved fresh air. August was staring at me. I could feel the heat from his eyes, practically burning me. I turned toward him, meeting his eyes, then quickly looked away. I kept my gaze everywhere else but him.

"You're upset." I looked at him, trying to read his expression.

"I wouldn't call it upset. Just confused." I breathed.

"But why?" there was a perplexing tone in his voice. I was embarrassed. I didn't want him to think I was too clingy. He studied my face. "You can tell me." I sighed.

"Why were you looking at that couple?" I asked. Realization flooded his face. He stuttered.

"I-I don't k-know." I pressed my lips into a line and kept quiet. I stood from the bleachers and ran back inside. I heard him calling after me but I kept running. I searched the room for Sky, hoping she could take me home. She was next to the stage. I tapped her shoulder, but August was behind me. He gently grabbed my shoulder and spun me around. We looked at each other for a while before he kissed me.

April 25th

"Hey." August kissed my cheek.

"Hi." I smiled at him. He sat down on my bed, I was working on an assignment at my desk. I got up and sat on my piano bench. "How was it?" he had just got back from a dinner with his parents.

"Eh, it was alright. Too classy for me." he said, pulling a notebook from out of his book bag.

"Draw anything new?" after a while, August and I opened up to each other. He shared his love of drawing with me and I shared my love of music with him.

"Nah." He shook his head, looking up at me. His eyes moved from me to my piano. "You should play."

"What should I play?" I asked, unsure of what he might like.

"Anything." he shrugged.

"Hmm..." I thought of what I should play. Then I turned toward the piano and started playing Fur Elise. I saw August smile from the corner of my eye. When I was finished, I sat next to him on my bed. He was drawing something. I leaned toward him to look over his shoulder. He was drawing me at the piano. It was beautiful, he created tints and shades from his pencil. It was nearly finished, but he closed the book and stared at me.

"What?" I said after a while. He pursed his lips, his face thoughtful. I placed my hand on his cheek, not paying any attention to what I was doing. His hand covered mine as he turned his head and pressed his lips to my palm. A smile crept up on my face and he pulled me into his arms. He was still holding me when Anna walked in.

"Awwww you guys are so cute together!" she squealed, closing the door. A few minutes later the door opened again. This time it was my father. I quickly pulled myself away from August . My dad stared at me with wide eyes. His face was red and he began to sputter.

"You," he pointed at August, "out! Now!"

"Dad." I whined. Agustin began packing his stuff. He put his book bag on his back and hurried for the door. Once he was gone, my father started yelling.

"This is what I get for letting you date! How could I be so stupid?!" he started pacing.

"Dad, nothing happened." I tried to explain but he wasn't having that.

"Oh please. You know what? You're not going to see that boy anymore!" my eyes widened.

"Dad you can't do that! It's not fair! Don't you believe me?! Nothing happened, i swear!" his expression softened at my words.

"Are you sure?" he whispered. I nodded quickly, glad that he was seeing sense. "Fine." he muttered, walking out of my room.
