A smile spread widely across my face. I replied " miss you too dork", and locked my phone. From then on the ride seemed to stretch into what felt like an eternity.

.....

"Kendall" the teacher had repeatedly said getting louder each time.

I zoned back into reality, ending the flashback that felt like yesterday.

We talked every once in awhile. The first few months Mason didn't let a day go by without communicating someway, but the days grew longer, and the conversations began to shorten. Soon it stopped completely, and all I could feel was an empty spot mourning for a friendship like that.

I got use to it overtime, filling those spots with friends that came and went. Nobody could replace Mason. Freshman year crept past me, and somehow I ended up finishing sophomore year without really noticing the time.

It was just a normal day.My parents brought home Chinese take-out and we sat in the living room watching some dumb reality show. The show ended, and my mom reached for the tv remote and shut the power off.

" we have to tell you something" they both said in unison.

My thoughts ran wild. The last time this happened my life had been flipped upside down. I'm not sure i could handle another drastic change. My dad took over and began speaking.

" My boss says I've been promoted, to manage the business back in Chicago."

My jaw dropped. 3 long years and were finally moving back home. I've been waiting for those words.

Time flew, and by then we were packed and ready for home. Mason was the only concern overwhelming my thoughts throughout the car ride. Our friendship hadn't even made it through the distance, it didn't feel right calling him up out of nowhere. He always loved surprises, why ruin it.

The ride went much quicker, I felt at ease again. Familiar roads, and buildings flashed in front of my eyes. We pulled up to our new house right outside the city.

I was starting over, in a place I've known my whole life, and I couldn't be happier.
