Chapter Seven- Frustrated

Peyton's POV

"Is that the one?" Shadow asked, annoyance laced through his words. I looked in the direction he was pointing and noticed my mate as she spoke to her Beta. She glanced my way and attempted to keep our eye contact but I swiftly looked away.

"Yeah, that's her," I said in a hushed tone. He stared at her for awhile before returning his attention back to me.

"Call me anytime, alright?" My hand tightened around the crumbled piece of paper in my pocket. It's been awhile since I've had a friend like Shadow and I wasn't going to forget him. In one night, he allowed me to open up to him and offered comfort when it was needed.

I smiled and he smiled back, his lips pulling back until they revealed his straight, blinding teeth. He offered me a one arm hug before walking out the building, leaving me alone with nothing but my suitcases and a lost soul.

"The car's ready," Matthew informed me. I glanced outside at the running car before smiling back at him. I was walking behind him when I was suddenly stopped.

"Can we talk?" I glanced up into those big blue eyes that I knew were staring down at me. My fingers tightened around the paper in my pocket, wishing that he would come back and distract me from this woman I couldn't get away from. "I'm sorry, okay?"

"Sorry for what?" I snapped. I pulled at my jacket, my knuckles white from holding the material so tight. I didn't want to talk with her. I didn't want to see those eyes staring into mine. I didn't want to feel the flutter of my heart every time she spoke. I didn't want any of it.

"I don't know," she mumbled, "for making you uncomfortable?" Scoffing, I pushed past her, only to be stopped again. She stood tall in front of me and I willed myself to look anywhere else but her face.

"What did I do, Pey?" she asked, breathless. "Why the fuck won't you say anything?" She was yelling this time, causing my fist to hold my jacket tighter, to draw my arms as close to body as possible. I didn't want this.

Her fingers raked through her hair as she tried to think of something to possibly say but there was nothing to say. I had no idea why I was angry, why she was frustrated. I was confused just as much as she was.

"Peyton?"

"Just leave me alone, okay?" I looked her dead in the eye, challenging her to say one more word. "You want to know what you did? You ruined me, you ruined everything. I would never be feeling the way I was if you had never come along. I would never be on the verge of crying of frustration if it weren't for you!"

"What do you want me to do then?"

"Go away," I whispered, my head hung low, "And never come near me again."

My heart ached, a feeling I didn't know existed until I found out Amelia was my mate. My hands trembled no matter how much I tightened them around my jacket. I hated these feelings, these feelings of anxiety, depression, confusion. I knew she did too but she was too proud to say anything.

"Go away?" Her voice was barely above a whisper and the beating organ within my chest ached just a little bit more. "Okay." I stared at the ground as she walked away. And I stared at my shoes when she knocked a vase off a table. I felt her anger mixing with mine and the wolf inside me begged to apologize and make things better. But I was tired of listening to my wolf. I was just too tired.

"Are you ready?" Matthew asked from a distance, my bags held tight in his hands. I glanced behind him, hoping to see the shine of my mate's blond hair blowing in the wind. But there was nothing. She was gone.

"Yes, I'm ready." My fists released the sides of my jacket from its death grip as I followed Matthew to the car.
