Sigh, sorry for the slow update. My computer was being a bitch but I got a new one so yay.
Chapter Six- Pure White
Peyton's POV
It was three days until the full moon and my hormones were going crazy. All my emotions were amplified, making it extremely difficult to control my attitudes, causing me to constantly test the authority of my Alpha mate.
My eyes never left Amelia's face, her hand opening and closing as she slept and her hair glowing in the afternoon sun. She had been asleep for at least thirty minutes and I half heartily felt bad for wearing her out. Earlier, we had decided to go for a run since we had some free time before we had to attend another ball tonight and apparently, I ran alot more faster than she did.
"It's not nice to stare," she said suddenly. Her eyelids lifted slowly, revealing her gunmetal colored eyes.
Still in my wolf form, my tail began to wag back and forth across the grass at the knowledge that she was awake. Her hand lifted and I met it halfway, letting her fingers rub small circles in my fur.
I whimpered slightly when she pulled away and cuddled into her chest, craving her touch. Her chuckle vibrated through her chest and I relished in the wonderful sensation. I looked up at her, hoping that she was looking at me but she wasn't. Her eyes were closed as she relaxed against the grass, a ghost of a smile on her lips.
I shifted back and slipped on the clothes that I was wearing earlier. "Amy, wake up. We need to go." I whined as my foot nudged her in the rib. She groaned loudly before turning over onto her side. She stared at me through her hard blue eyes, taking in every single detail of my face. "Why are you staring at me like that?" A smile pulled at her lips.
"Because you're beautiful." My cheeks warmed at her compliment, even though it felt odd to be complimented by her. She was usually the one to tear me down, not build me up. "Come on, we gotta go." She grabbed my hand and hauled me to my feet before dragging me back towards the building.
It wasn't long before we were dressed and ready for the last ball before we left. She wore the same dress as before but she still looked perfect all the same.
The ball was more crowded than before and I feared I wouldn't be able to have a dance with my mate since the entire floor was full. Amelia smiled down at me before guiding me through the mass of people and finding us an incredibly tight spot on the floor, causing us to squeeze together, not that I was complaining.
Her hands rested on my hips as mine looped around her neck. Her breath was warm against the top of my head, which began to irritate me. I tried to shift away from her breath but I couldn't. "Hey, what's wrong?" Amelia asked as she stared down at me, a sly smirk on her lips, which also annoyed me. My mood was switching from romantic to irritated at the moment. My emotions were acting as if I was on my period, which I wasn't.
I shook my head, trying to dismiss the unknown issue. I turned away, hoping to spot a place where I could take a breather. But I was suddenly pulled back and I was met with the soft plush touch of her lips against mine.
My heart swooned at her sudden affection and I couldn't help but melt into her touch. I could suddenly feel every aspect of her presence. I could feel her hands as they held onto my shoulders. I could sense her body warmth as it provided heat for both of us. And I could smell the pleasant scent of her perfume as it swam around me, captivating my senses and taking them on a blissful ride.
But out of nowhere, I was irritated by her demanding presence. I was irritated by her breath that skimmed the top of my lip and I was incredibly irritated by how hard she was holding my shoulders. She was going to leave a bruise if she didn't let go soon.
Eventually, my irritation took the best of me and pushed her off of me, causing her to bump into the person behind her. Before she could question me, I stormed passed her and left the ballroom. I had no reason to be upset but I was and I just wanted to be left alone.
The first place I went was to my room to change into a different pair of clothes and then to my beta's room, where I was going to spend the rest of the night. But a part of me couldn't help but miss Amelia. But as I entered the room, I surprised to see someone already in the room. I guess I just figured everyone had gone to the ball.
A boy sat on the farthest bed. His hair was as white as snow, his skin almost the same shade. His black shirt clung to his muscles, causing his hair to look extremely bright. His head snapped up when he heard me enter the room, his eyebrows furrowing together in confusion. "Can I help you?" his rough voice vibrated through the walls. Even though I was an Alpha, as well, he intimidated me.
"I was just looking for Matthew," I stated, my shoulders back as to make me appear more confident.
"He's not here at the moment," he responded before returning his attention back to the blue book in his hands.
"Yeah, I see that." My gaze lingered on his white hair before I went to sit on Matthew's bed. The Alpha in the bed next to me seemed confused to see that I was still present.
"He's at the ball."
"Yeah, I know." I spread out across the bed and stared up at the white ceiling above us. My eyes were replaying images of Amelia, even when I begged them not to. I sighed deeply before shutting my eyes but that didn't stop them from picturing my mate.
"What's bothering you?" I heard the slam of his book and was sorta of surprised that he decided to take an interest into me.
"How do you know something's bothering me?"
"I can smell it," he sighed. He sounded as if he knew the scent all to well and it distressed him in some way. I turned to look at him, taking in the way he stared at his hands with grief.
"What's bothering you?" He glanced up at me before shaking his head. "Go on, tell me. I don't bite, much." He seemed to grin at my statement. Sighing, he came to lay beside me, staring up at the ceiling as well.
"I lost my mate." I hadn't expected his response to be that tragic. My heart ached for him but all I could was stare straight ahead of me at the ceiling. I had a feeling that he didn't want anyone's pity.
"I hate my mate." He nodded his head as if he understand. We sat there in a comfortable silence for what felt like years until he spoke again.
"I'm Shadow." His name fit his looks.
"I'm Peyton."
