I learned how to sing in front of others for you,
because you said it was selfish of you to keep my "angelic" voice for yourself.
You learned to play guitar for me,
so I could have an instrument backing the voice I used to sing the lyrics we worked so hard to write for each other.
we became a duo.
we played in bars and at coffee shops.
on random street corners and at the county fair talent show.
so many people told us that together we would go somewhere in life.
always together.
they never mentioned how it would all end once we ended.
once we stopped writing love songs,
there was no musical duo.
I was just a singer without a guitarist.
and you were a guitarist without a singer.
my lyrics never seem to fit together anymore and I am positive it's the same for you.
now my lyrics are just a bunch of meaningless words full of holes you usually filled.
our songs were always a metaphor of our love,
but now that our love is gone.
my songs are filled with holes.
which is guess is still a metaphor.
but this time for my heart.
