wednesday morning: the hotel room
y/n's eyes fluttered open, her ears perking as she awoke. the faint sound of a body thudding onto the floor slapped her up, and she lifted her head off the pillow. glancing around, she immediately noticed that jungkook wasn't beside her, and the duvet on his side were thrown aside, a large space in the middle that he most likely slept in.
she got up and ran her hands through her hair, getting it out of her face and into a messy bun as she approached the bathroom. she peeked in after knocking, her eyes widening as she saw jungkook sprawled on the floor on his stomach, sweat beading on his body. his shirt and shorts were crumpled up a few feet away from him, drenched in perspiration.
she rushed over to him, kneeling by his side and feeling for a pulse on his wrist. she felt the soft beating of his heart under his skin and she sighed in relief, "good, you're not dead," she muttered before shaking his arm.
he groaned in response, and him doing that gave her a clear hearing of his breathing, if you'd call it that, he was practically wheezing, and his voice sounded hoarse and rough. now conscious, he pushed himself up, collapsing back onto his chest once before managing to rest himself against the wall.
"what happened?" she demanded, pressing the back of her hand against his forehead. he was burning.
"i don't know," he coughed, "i didn't feel too good earlier and i came to the bathroom, it was really hot, so i went to take a cold shower, but i guess i passed out," he opened his eyes slightly, glancing at her hand that was on his forehead before switching his gaze to her, "how long was i out?"
"not too long, just a few minutes," she mumbled, getting up and taking a piece of cloth and a bowl that she could store water in. she filled it up with cold water and set it on the bedside table on his side, heading back into the bathroom and grabbing his arms, pulling him up onto his feet.
he stumbled and left his weight on her, his eyes closing. she gritted her teeth and rounded his arm around her shoulder, using one of hers to wrap around his waist and haul him to the bed. he was heavier than she expected, but she managed to throw him onto the mattress.
half of his body was still hanging off it, so she pushed him further until he was lying there comfortably. she grabbed the cloth and dunked it in the cold water, twisting the excess out and laying it on his forehead. she kept repeating the process in an effort to lower his temperature, but it didn't work as well as she hoped.
"damn it jeon," she sighed, "why did you have to have a fever right now?"
he groaned, "go away, monitor the case."
"it records everything, it's fine, i need to take care of you, yoongi will probably yell at me if i don't," she told him, refreshing the cloth.
"i don't need you here, fuck off," he growled, pushing her away.
she flinched. sure, she could handle comments, but that was a little too harsh for her. she never heard him say a strong word like that, and the fact that the first time she heard it and it was aimed at her, it made her feel as if she was nothing but an item to mess around with.
nonetheless, she learned not to take things personally, and he was sick, so he probably couldn't even hear what he was saying.
she searched through her bag, fishing out a bottle of ibuprofen and taking one out. she originally brought it in case she needed to relieve the headache that he would surely be giving her, but turns out there would be another reason.
she filled up a glass of water and nudged him, "take this," she passed him the pill, and he popped it into his mouth with no hesitation, taking the water from her and gulping it down. he rested back onto the bed, drowsily blinking before falling asleep.
she rested the damp cloth on his skin again, brushing his hair back with her hand and watching as it flopped back to cover his forehead. she did that a couple more times before leaving him to rest, sitting by the couch and watching the camera. she ordered some room service and woke him up, "jeon, you need to eat something."
he nodded quietly, pushing himself up to rest against the headboard and eating while y/n placed a glass of water on the bedside table. she rested her hand on his forehead and he whined, wiggling around until she took her hand away.
"your fever is still there," she pursed her lips, "want to take that bath you wanted earlier?"
he nodded and moved the plates off of him and got up slowly, taking a couple steps before his leg buckled underneath him. she shot over to him and stopped the process of him falling, propping him up and helping him to the bathroom. he walked by himself for awhile, turning the water on for the bath and pouring a container of soap mixture in for fun as she turned to leave.
he chewed on his lip hesitantly before calling to her, "wait, y/n," she glanced at him, "can you stay here? just in case?" he mumbled shyly, a light pink making its way to his cheeks. she sighed and nodded.
"alright, fine," she pulled the cover on the toilet down and placed herself there, averting her body to face away from him and towards the door as he stripped himself and got into the bath. she went onto her phone, scrolling through social media as she waited.
looking at her back, jungkook grinned cheekily and grabbed a handful of bubbles, blowing it in her direction. they flew through the air, floating over to her and popping on her back and head. she raised her head in surprise, turning around.
she rolled her eyes when she saw his smile and put her phone away, crossing her arms, "and you called me childish."
he waved her off, "whatever," he giggled, dipping his hands in the water and flicking it at her. she closed an eye as the water splattered onto her shirt, huffing with an annoyed expression as she fully turned towards him.
his shoulders were barely visible above the water, his knees poking out from the cloudy water. bubbles crowded around him, floating on the surface of the water. he sunk down farther, stopping at his chin before rising back out, the soap glistening against his skin along with a few bubbles here and there.
she chuckled and leaned back when a sudden thought hit her mind, "hey jeon, do you remember anything from a few hours ago?"
he shook his head, "no, why?"
"no reason, just wondering."
he groaned, "did i do something embarrassing?"
she laughed at the thought as she shook her head as well, "no, i was just wondering."
he nodded before asking her, "why do you call me jeon? but you call hyungs by their first name."
she contemplated for awhile, shrugging, "i don't know, i don't always call you by your surname, do i?"
"you have been recently," he pointed out.
"well," she drawled, "here's the thing, i only call people by their last names if i'm not friends with them," she pressed her lips together into a small smile as his expression darkened, "i'm sorry, i'll try to call you jungkook more oft-."
"no," he interrupted, glancing at her with a slight glare, "don't bother. i wouldn't want to be a friend of yours anyway."
her expression turned into a scowl, "it isn't my fault we aren't exactly friends, don't blame me when you've done your share of damaging as well."
