Prologue
I feel trapped... trapped in an impossible situation with no way out.
My name is Lily Hughes. I'm 22 years old, and I used to live a very calm and normal life, with my fiancé Jake. We had moved into a new house we had just bought together, moving out of the apartment we had previously rented. Life was perfect, we both had good jobs, a nice house, and we were even thinking about starting a family.
Then everything was taken away from me rapidly. Jake passed away unexpectedly; the police said it was suicide, but it all seemed a bit mysterious to me, as Jake would have reached out to me if he was struggling with something and it was very unexpected. A few days passed, and I had just gone back to work that day. I came home to find my house was going up in flames! The fire was eventually put out by the firefighters, however I am now having to stay at my parents house until I can find other accommodation.
Then suddenly lots of complaints came in at work that they felt I wasn't treating customers very fairly. I used to work as a receptionist for a law firm and I enjoyed it, it was a well paid job. However things got so bad that it was affecting the company, so they had to let me go. So could anything get worse?
Well yes it could. Even money was stolen from me. The police say it was taken out using Jake's card, from our shared account. It's all down to one criminal, I'm sure of it.
Now call me paranoid, but everytime something bad has happened to me, I seem to notice a shady figure, hiding from me away in the shadows like a coward. It feels as though someone is always watching and I no longer feel safe. If only there was a way that this could all disappear.
Chapter 1:
I enter the hotel room. This has been my living accommodation for the past couple of weeks. I could have continued to stay at my parents house, but I needed a few weeks away just on my own to try and clear my head.
I'm staying at a hotel about a mile or two away from where the remenants of my old house lay. It's nothing fancy, but I'm okay with that. I had to ask my parents if they could pay it for me because I lost most of my money as well as my income. Luckily I have an interview for a job in a few days, so hopefully I can start to rebuild my life; however it is a lower pay than I used to get from my old job.
As I enter the room, I see a black leather folder, neatly placed on the coffee table. Confidential is written on the front in golden printed writing, but just underneath is a post it note stuck to it saying "Lily Hughes."
What's this? thinking to myself in confusion and curiosity.
I pick up the folder to find there is a letter inserted inside. Confidential is repeated at the top left hand corner, and it says my name below that.
What's this? This can't be mine. Who sent this? All these questions startong to stir around my mind like a hurricane, ripping up the landscape. I start reading the message.
"Dear Miss. Hughes,
We are the society of special agents (S.O.S.A) and we would like to inform you that you have been selected to join onto our newest line of agents. This is completely confidential and should not be shared with anyone, not even your closest family members.
We know of the circumstances that you have recently experienced these past month, so it was our society's decision to enroll you onto our line of agents, as we thought you suited the job. If you do choose to accept this offer there will be many benefits, however please be aware that it is not the same as a normal job.
After reading this letter, please write at the bottom of the page with your answer and a signature, telling us if you would like to join. Then please hand the folder to the hotel receptionist. She is part of our team, but we must ask you to keep it as hidden as possible when giving her the folder, as we don't know who could be there.
Thank you for reading and we hope you will enlist on our team of agents.
Signed
S.O.S.A (Society Of Special Agents)
I close the folder, shocked at what I've just read. Me! How could I be fit for a job as a special agent? I decide I should take the opportunity, seen as it could be a way for me to start rebuilding my life.
I sign the paper at the bottom with the answer yes, and close the folder. I then put the folder in an empty carrier bag I had from my old house. I head out of my room and downstairs to reception.
"Hello, could you look after this for me please?" I ask the receptionist as she takes the bag from me. I can tell she recognises me.
"Yes of course, thank you." She replies before heading into the back office and placing the bag by a desk and closing the door. She hands me a digital watch and almost whispers "you'll need this for incoming updates."
"Ok thank you." I say strapping the watch to my wrist and heading back upstairs to my room. As I reach the corridor my room is on, I see 3 men all stood talking quietly to each other further down the hall. I can't hear them, but they are all watching me.
I unlock the door and walk in, locking the door behind me. All of a sudden my watch starts buzzing. It reads:
"Hello Agent Hughes, we are glad that you decided to enroll onto our program. I'm sure you will do very well. Could you meet us at our base to begin your training please. Our base is located in London.
Many Thanks
SOSA
London! I'm living in Huddersfield at the moment. How am I supposed to get to London? But then my watch lights up again.
"Hi sorry I forgot to mention, we have built you a hidden temporary house, it's located inside our base. We have also got a car for you at the base"
They've even gone and built me a house! And given me a car. They seem very well prepared.
I start to pack my stuff and walk back down to reception. "Thank you" the woman says as I return the key. It's a different woman.m to the one I had handed the folder to.
I head outside and start my car up, I need to go see my parents first.
Authors Notes
Hi everyone! I decided to rewrite this book because I wasn't really liking how the last one was turning out and I didn't really have much plot to carry on with, however I have created a slightly different plot which will work better with the story. Please vote and comment. In this book I would love to see any of your opinions, and also what you think will happen in the next in the story.
Hope you all enjoyed reading this chapter, I did writing it but I decided I'll have a quieter sense to the beginning instead of her already being in the job, I promise it will start to get more interesting as the story progresses.
