A person can only have one soulmate. A soulmate is supposed to be with that person for most of their lives. If you're my soulmate, you aren't human.

Wait, what?

That's why I need to talk to my brother. He can me might daft sometimes, but he has his moments.

You nod in a confused daze. You motion for him to go talk to Thor. After he walks off, making sure you're really okay first, you walk to your room, and sit down on your bed.

"Y/N? Are you alright? Would you like me to contact Mr. Rodgers?" Jarvis asks.

You nod slightly, still letting the news fully sink in. It doesn't take long for Steve to open your door and come in.

"Hey. Jarvis said you wanted me. Is everything alright?"

I'm not human.

"What?"

Loki is my soulmate, and I'm not human.

"Hold on. Loki's your soulmate?"

You nod, snapping your fingers playfully. Keep up Rodgers.

Suddenly, Thor bursts into the room. Loki trails behind, mumbling something about Thor barging in like a giant oaf.

"Loki has told me of the news! Congratulations!"

Thank you. It's not everyday you find out you're not human. I mean, how is that even possible? I have a birth certificate!

"So do I!" Steve says, smiling.

Yeah, well, you're also technically human. Super-soldier, yes. Alien? You look at Thor. Do you know anything that can help me figure this out?

"Well, there is a story that Asgardians are told as children."

"You don't mean-"

"Yeah. I mean, it makes sense, doesn't it?"

Loki looks at you, then back at Thor.

Well, for us non-Asgardians, can you please tell the story?

Loki nods, and begins telling the story, using his illusions to paint the picture for you.

"Long ago, when the Dark Elves had control of the Aether, the king of Asgard had a child. This child was said to have been the most beautiful child ever born. They radiated with an energy no one had seen before.

"When Asgard went to war with Svartalfheim, the king gave his life to win, leaving his child without a father.

"The king's friend had an idea, though. He knew Malekith would be back and would seek revenge. The only way to do so, would have been to hurt his child.

"So the friend, with the queen's permission, changed what everyone saw and remembered. He made everyone believe that his son, Odin, was the prince. He erased all evidence of the king's true child, disappearing shortly afterwards.

"He wasn't able to erase everything, though, because we were able to find evidence that this is what happened. Nobody knows what happened to the child, but the theory is that he was able to use an unfathomable magic and turned them into a baby oncemore.

"Nobody knows what happened, but if we're correct about this, then he was somehow able to make you appear mortal in every sense."

So... You're saying that I'm Asgardian?

"If we're right, then yes. You are."

"But, that doesn't make any sense. I mean, it does, but it doesn't. Wouldn't have Heimdall caught the king's best friend smuggling a small child to Earth?" Steve pipeds up, equally as confused as you.
