Part 4 - Pearls of Past

Hi friends,

Sorry for being inactive without any prior notice.I had to attend a series of exams and present a couple of seminars quite unexpectedly and it took all of my time.I was back home just some hours before.

After making the baby sleep,Khushi came to kitchen hoping to find something to eat as she was feeling very hungry.The kitchen too was of a very modern design.She was about to open fridge when she heard,

"Good evening Madam.." Greeted a pretty woman in her early fiftees.

Might be the house help, thought Khushi as she said a soft "Good evening."

"I am Jaya..I have been working here for the past 16 years.." She said as Khushi took some potatoes from the fridge and moved to the sink to wash it.Will make aloo gobi today,Khushi made a mental note and proceeded to fetch the other things when Jaya interrupted again,"Everything is ready on the dining table Madam..I had prepared everything you liked as told by sir..He had given me strict instruction to not allow you to do any work in the kitchen." Said the lady as she led Khushi to the dining hall.

The dining table was literally filled with dishes of all kind.Their delicious aroma filled the air.

"You made all these in such a short time?!.." Khushi asked Jaya,amused.

"Yes Madam..I will serve it.." The elder lady said smiling.

Instead of replying,Khushi gave a dazzling smile and sat on the chair while Jaya filled the plate and handed it to her.

"Here Madam,hope you like it.." Jaya said affectionately.

"It is delicious Jaya Ji.." Khushi said smiling brightly.

Unknown to Khushi,Arnav was standing near the dining room watching all these with a smile on his face.He was so happy to get a glimpse of his old Khushi;her dazzling smile,love for food,surprised look on her face..He had really missed all of them.

When Khushi came back to her room after the dinner,she saw Arnav sitting on the bed with their baby in his arms.

"He woke up and started crying..You were down,having food..So.." The man who never gave any reasons for his actions tried to reason.

"He must be feeling hungry.." Said Khushi.

"You can take rest for some time, Khushi..I will hold him.He is sound asleep." Suggested Arnav.

Khushi was about to deny,but when she saw the pleading look on his face,she didn't.After all he was just asking a chance to hold their baby right?.No harm in it,her heart tried to reason her brain.Besides,as Lavanya said, their baby should get the warmth of his father too.Without replying anything,Khushi grabbed her towel and clothes and left to the bathroom.

When Khushi came back to the room,showered and changed into a pale green cotton salwaar,Arnav was trying hard to calm their crying baby.A soft smile crept on her lips seeing Arnav making baby noises to calm their crying bundle.

"He needs a diaper change." Khushi told Arnav as she took the baby from Arnav.

She put the baby carefully on the bed and took baby wipes,diaper cream and baby powder from her bag.

"Mumma will change baby's diaper shoonnn.." Khushi said in a childlike voice as she removed the soiled diaper,wiped the baby clean,applied diaper cream & powder and made him wear the fresh diaper.Arnav was all the while looking all these keenly.How magical their world would be with just her,him and their baby?!.He,who never loved kids now wants to experience the happiness of parenthood.As he watched, Khushi removed the baby's cloth and dressed him in a fresh baby blue soft cotton cloth and wrapped him in a fluffy white towel.The silence was broken by the ringing of Arnav's phone.After giving one more look to his small family,he left the room to attend the call.
