Part 6 : The Pain She Went Through

It was 11.45 PM but the baby was not in a mood to sleep.

"Please sleep beta.Mumma is so tired..Be a good boy,now." Khushi said in an almost pleading tone and yawned for the hundredth time.She had read about babies staying awake till late night to wee hours of morning and now she was experiencing it.She tried rocking him in the crib,tried picking him in arms and singing lullaby and even fed him twice hoping he would sleep but the baby didn't sleep for a second.Khushi was very much sleepy and exhausted.She didn't know what to do more.

Arnav had a video conference with his foreign clients and was coming from his study to room when he saw the light still ON in Khushi's room.He moved closer to the door and could hear faint lullaby.That means,the baby was still awake?Arnav thought curiously and checked the time once again,12.05 AM.

The door was thankfully unlocked and he opened it slowly and entered to find a half sleepy Khushi sitting on the bed while the baby lied fully awake on it.

"Khushii.." He called softly and Khushi's sleepy eyes opened.She blinked them a few times and looked at him confused,silently asking what he was doing there.

"I was going to my room when I found the lights here still on..Why isn't the baby asleep yet?Is he okay?.." Arnav asked concerned.

"He is okay.It is normal,that babies stay up late.." Khushi replied rubbing her eyes.

"You are so tired Khushi.You get some sleep..I will manage him." Arnav said seeing Khushi's sleepy eyes and tired face.

"No,that's alright..I am not that sleepy." Khushi said with yet another yawn and Arnav smirked at her as though asking'really?!'.

"I will manage him Khushi..You really need a peaceful sleep..Your eyes are red."

Khushi looked at the wide awake baby for a minute.Yes,she was too sleepy to manage him now.So let his father take care of him for some time,she reasoned her mind,nodding an YES.Arnav's lips curled into a smile,he will be able to spend sometime with his baby with Khushi's permission.

"Put him in the crib after he sleeps." She instructed softly and kissed the baby's forehead.Arnav smiled at her,taking the baby in his arms and wished a soft "Good night.".Khushi sighed and laid on the bed,without wishing him back.

Arnav held the baby carefully in his arms and moved to the hall.He sat on the sofa,the baby still held close to his heart.Arnav kept looking at his sons's face,fondly observing each and every minute detail of the little one.

"Not sleepy yet,little man?" He asked softly,a smile playing on his lips.

That was a very rare sight.If anyone else see Arnav now,they were sure to get a heart attack..The ASR smiling!..A baby in his arms!.Him talking to the infant,that too at midnight!..

The truth was,he was not ASR anymore now..Atleast in his home.He was just Arnav..Khushi's husband..and father of their baby.He now clearly understood the value of his wife..He was ready to admit that there is no life for him if there is no Khushi and their baby in it.He could feel his heartbeat stopping at the mere thought of Khushi and their baby leaving him.His hold automatically strengthened and he kissed the baby's forehead whispering,"I won't let you and your mumma away from me,baby..I love you both..".The baby made some noise in reply as if saying All the best Daddy'.
