“Logan, I’m scared.” I whispered in his ears as we stood on the stage awaiting the results.

“Don’t be,” he whispered back.

The MC appeared on the stage with a paper showing the results in his hand. “Ladies and gentlemen, just like I said at the beginning of the show, the acts will be eliminated one by one until there are three acts left on the stage.”

It was followed by a round of applause.

“Thanks so much to everyone that tried, you are a star in your own way, but, there can only be one winner.”

Oh jeez! My heart was beating. Logan squeezed my right hand and Clay, my left hand.

“Ladies and Gents, I’d like you guys to give a round of applause for the following acts as they leave the stage.”

He started calling the name of the acts who were out and they exited the stage as the audience supported them with a round of applause. It went on and on and I got really tired, the people in the audience were also tired because their claps were beginning to wane. My legs were killing me; we had been standing for over thirty minutes as the acts were uncountable.

I rested almost all my weight on Logan but he didn’t complain. How can he? He has been treating me like gold ever since he regained his memory.

Everything in life happens for a reason. I no longer regretted Logan’s amnesia because it thought me a big lesson- you don’t know what you have till it’s gone. Clay had said that at Claire’s funeral.

I held everyone in my life very close to me now because I knew that one day, they wouldn’t be there again, just like Claire. Now, everybody had their importance in my life, no one would be taken for granted any longer.

Most especially, I was going to cherish my friends and family everyday like it was the last day I’d spend with them, because, someday I’d be right.

I was going to remain happy like Claire was. I was learning to smile all the time now, and the good thing was that my life was actually fitting into place now.

I loved my family a lot, dad, mum and Maxwell. I had never been so happy and I was always singing in the kitchen, the bathroom, the car, everywhere. Things were perfect now. Maxwell was already walking well and dad was going to resume work at a nearby bank immediately after the holidays.

What more could I ask for?

My friends were also doing great.

It had been a long time coming for Clay and Charlotte and now they were a couple. I was so excited and happy for the both of them.

Then there was Marc, who wasn’t ready to start dating yet. He hasn’t gotten over Claire and no one argued with him over it.

He had also been a good leader to Debonair and he was part of the reasons we were on this stage.

Finally there was Logan and I, the best couple Whitneyville had ever seen. We had gone on countless dates since he regained his memory. It was like we just began dating, things were going too well.

I loved my life, I loved my family and I loved my friends, in fact, the MC was so right, it didn’t matter if we won or not. We tried our best and we were stars no matter what.

Logan shook me back to reality. “We are in the top three Hazel!”

What?! I looked around to see only the dancer that performed last and a girl singing group standing on the stage with us. “Oh my God, we are in the top three!”  I jumped up and hugged the guys.

“Ladies and gentlemen we have Tom Steele, Singers in Pink and Debonair as the top three acts!” A thunderous round of applause followed. “Please step forward, the three of you.” We obeyed.

This was the moment of truth. I closed my eyes and inhaled. I was ready for whatever the results was.

“The second runner up goes to …. Drums roll please.”

The drums did roll and the audience began to clap. “The second runner up goes to Singers in Pink!”

OMG!! We are in the top two!!!! Jumping Jehoshaphat!!
