I sat there for a long while, just staring at him with my mouth opening and shutting. In that moment, I knew I looked exactly like a fish out of water, but I couldn't stop myself because the words he had just spoken had shocked me just that much.

In retrospect, those words probably shouldn't have been so surprising. He had said he was going to cook up a plan to help me get back at Simon and Kate...

Forcing myself back to the subject at hand, I watched Liam curiously through narrowed eyes.

"To summarize everything, you want me to pretend to date you to get back at Simon and Kate."

He nods once.

I could feel my lips purse as I turned the idea over in my mind. I had to admit, it was a good idea. It was a way to hit both of them at once in numerous areas. One, Liam was their boss which was effective for obvious reasons. Two, Liam was far more rich and successful that Simon, Kate and me combined. If they thought I was dating someone like him, Simon's ego that he was the only man I could ever love would crumble to pieces, not to mention Kate would be seething in jealousy. I remember the days where she would go on and on about how gorgeous her boss's son was. She would rave about Liam, about how she wished he could make himself more available so she could have her chance with him...

For the first time since the incident eight months ago, a feeling like satisfaction began welling in my chest as I imagined their faces. The idea of seeing the hurt and shock that had been on my face the day they betrayed me being on their faces instead gave me a pleasure that was exhilaration in its purest form.

"If I do agree to this, what would you be getting out of the deal? Earlier, you said that this was something that was going to be beneficial for both of us. It's obvious how this will benefit me but I can't imagine this will benefit you, Mr. Hawke."

He smiled. "For a couple of months now, my mother has become worried about me. I haven't had one steady relationship in all of my life. My mother has been trying to set me up on dates with her friend's daughters. She's blind to the fact that those women and their daughters only want me as their son-in-laws and as their husbands because of who I am. It's becoming annoying, not to mention I can't focus on my work the way I want to." He blew out an exasperated sigh, bringing his coffee to his lips and taking a sip before setting it down again. "That's where I want you to come in, Miss. Michaels."

"I see. So, you'll play the role of the perfect boyfriend for the people who wronged me and I'll play the role of the doting girlfriend to ease your mother's worries." It wasn't a question but he nodded anyway.

Now that I understood the gist of the situation, I felt more at ease. At least this way, I wasn't the only one who would be getting something out of this deal and he wasn't going to ask me to do something absolutely degrading in return for him helping me out. Honestly, Liam didn't seem like the kind of guy who would ever ask me to do something I was uncomfortable with but you could never judge a book by its cover.

Look how well that turned out for me.

The anger that had been boiling inside me all this time was overflowing now. I couldn't have stopped it if I wanted to. And to tell the truth, I didn't want to. The hurt was still there, simmering underneath the boiling hot rage that was flowing through my veins but compared to my desire for revenge on the two people who had betrayed me, that hurt may as well have been a whisper in a room of shouts.

So, when I looked a Liam and said, "Okay, we'll go with your plan. But, if at any point I get uncomfortable..."

He held his hands up in a sign of peace. "You can leave whenever you want. Just let me know first, so I can work on a way to bring my mom down gently."
