Rage started his morning with his morning run. He needed the run to work through some stuff on his mind. Some stuff with the injured trainees. Some stuff about the everyday operation of the compound. Then there was Joy. As he pushed himself into a hard sprint, he allowed himself to think. How could he convince her to stay? How could he explain mates to her? Would she accept him as her mate? How would she react? Where would she stay while there? They had a couple guest cabins, but they were in the process of being fixed up. The thought made him slow his run. Their sister packs alpha, his cousin, and his family were coming to visit. Meaning he still had to find a place for Joy to stay. Maybe Ari had a room or maybe his sister. She was sure to enjoy having a nurse around at the end of her pregnancy.
He reached the end of his route before finding answers. He headed home. He needed a shower and get to work. The trainees needed his attention. The injured trainees needed reprimanding. He needed to do so much. When he got home, he headed for the shower. The nice hot water relaxed his now tired muscles. He got out and wrapped a towel around his waist. He exited the bathroom and stopped dead. Standing in the doorway to his bedroom was Joy. She gasped at the sight of him.
"What are you..." She began. "What are you doing here?"
He frowned at her. "I live here. This is my home."
She frowned. "No. This is the cabin, Sam told me this was my cabin."
"Well there had to be a mix up. I'll get this figured out." He said.
He saw her face fall but not before the disappointment showed in her eyes. She walked down the hall toward his living room. He hated seeing the disappointment in her eyes. It cut at him. Was he just seeing things? Did she want to be around him? Did she feel their pull to each other? He felt it stronger now. The pull on his body was almost too much to bare. He ached to touch her, to kiss her. His wolf wanted to mark her. Leave his mark and scent all over her. He puts his jeans and black sweater on and walks out into his living room. He sees Joy standing by his big picture window. He smells the sadness coming off her. That about breaks him. He walks over to her. She turns to him. He sees a single tear fall and pulls her to his chest. He lets her cry on him. Lets her cling to him.
After a while she stops crying and just hold him. He continues to hold her. Not wanting to let go. Not wanting her to let go. He strokes her back. He feels her start to relax.
"Why were you crying?" He asked her quietly.
She sighs, "Because... Because this happened to me. Because my life has changed. Because you make me feel things. Because I thought... I thought you... Oh never mind."
He leans back and tilts her head up. "No, tell me. You thought I what?"
"I thought you wanted me. You almost kissed me last night. I saw desire in your eyes. Then you just left without a word to me. Now you... You can't wait for me to be out of your house." She told him in a rush. "I'm used to men not wanting me. But never have they done the things you have."
He stares into her emerald green eyes. How can he show her none of that is true? Before he knows what's happening, he's kissing her velvet soft lips. Working his mouth with hers. She clings to him. Grinding herself against him. He has to fight the urge to mark her. He can't do that just yet. She rubs against him one last time and pulls back. They are both out of breath.
"I left without a word because I didn't want to embarass you by telling Ari to leave. I only said I would fix this because I didn't want you to feel like you didn't have a choice." He explained. "I want you." He took her hand and placed it on his hardened cock. "If you don't believe me, believe what you feel."
He saw her eyes widen. Her fingers flexed against his cock. He held back a groan of pleasure. He let go of her hand to show her that he trusted her. She didn't pull her hand back. She flexed her fingers again. He couldn't stop the groan. Her gaze darted up to his. She smiled and did it again.
He grabbed her hand and pulled it back. "As much as I like that. Believe me I do." He began. "I have work to do today."
Her face fell but not before he saw the sadness in her eyes. He couldn't stand it. He hooked a finger under her chin and kissed her lips gently.
"Do not doubt that I want you. I just cant neglect my duties today." He leaned his forehead against hers. "I desperately want to. But I'll work as fast as I can. Tell me you will be here when I return."
She closed her eyes. "I will be here... Unless I am at the clinic."
He nodded and gave her a quick kiss. He turned away and walked out of his cabin. It was the hardest thing he had to do. He never could have imagined it being that hard to walk away. He took a deep breath and headed for the office. He needed to check on a few things before heading to the training fields. He got to the office and right before he entered, Raven, approached. Ravens long black hair blew in the light morning breeze.
"I was just checking to see if you were in yet." Raven told him.
"Why's that?" Rage asked as he entered the office cabin.
Raven followed, "Because I wanted to talk to you about Dimitri. I watched the bunker all night."
"And?" Rage asked, "What happened?"
"Dimitri came with another vampire. He seemed to be showing him where his haunts are."
"Alright."
"They are going back tonight. Preparing it for another kidnapping. Happening within the week."
"Any indication who?"
"Someone from Blaines pack. They know he's coming. What route he's coming and when."
"I see. I'll talk to Blaine and rearrange his visit and path. We can't afford for Dimitri to take anyone else."
"Do we try an ambush tonight?"
"I... Yeah. We ambush tonight. Let the others know. I want us all ready an hour before sundown."
Raven nodded and left. He sat behind his desk in the open living space. This was his chance to make it safe for Joy. But he felt guilty. Guilty because he had made plans to... He wanted to prove to her that he wanted her tonight. How would he explain to her that he had to go? Would she understand? He didn't want to disappoint her again. Though he knew he would. He ran his hands through his hair. He needed to get his work done. Turning on his computer, he prepared to check the packs secure email. The one he used to communicate with Blaine.

I just recieved intel that you may have a leak. The vampire, Dimitri, is planning an ambush. A kidnapping during your travel here. They somehow know when you are traveling and your exact route. I think we should rethink your plan. Make new ones without telling anyone. New date, new time, and a whole new route. Throw the vampires off.
Please let me know if this is something you would like to do. I can send an escort for you if need be.

Rage

He hit send and sat back. He secretly hoped that Blaine canceled his trip here. He didnt want to have to work around him being here. He didnt want to send his men out to fight without him among them. He turned his attention to the training schedule he needed to make up. Each of the six other warriors and himself headed a training class. Sometimes they tag teamed the classes. It was time to make a new schedule. He was about to start when his email notification went off.

I appreciate you reaching out to me about this. I have thought for a while that we had a leak. I am investigating this issue. But in the light of this new information, I am canceling my trip. I will send a squad of warriors out on the original date and time down the original path.
I appreciate you telling me about this new information. I will see you when I can

Blaine

He was relieved that Blaine wasn't coming. He hated when Blaine came. It meant that he couldn't do what he pleased. It meant he was in full alpha mode the entire time Blaine was there. Now he had time to be with Joy. Except for tonight. He had to be with his men at the bunker. He needed to make it safe. Needed to make Joy safe.
