       *RIIIIIIIIIING!*

I quickly packed my bags as I attempted to avoid the stampede of students barging out of the school. Sighing, I got out of my seat and walked out of the school after most people left. I started to walk home, and then suddenly remembered that Andrew wanted me out. I quickly changed direction and headed to the mall to do some shopping. Luckily, I brought my wallet with me.

As I walked, I put my earbuds on and started listening to the local radio. I quietly sang along to What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction as I crossed the street.

Yes, don’t be surprised, I am a huge One Direction fan. It’s not because of their looks (though they are pretty good looking), it’s because of their path to fame. They were just normal guys, just like me, but with a lot of confidence and courage. With that, they could do anything. They went from being normal to becoming international pop stars, just by having the courage and the determination to audition for The X-Factor. They taught me that as long as you try, anything can happen. And that’s what keeps me going up to this day, knowing for a fact that if I just keep on trying, I’ll get out of the mess that’s my life, someday.

As I walked in the mall, the first thing that I saw was people setting up a table with a huge neon sign on it.

The sign read, “If you are a daily listener to Capital FM, then enter for a chance to WIN 2 TICKETS AND VIP PASSES TO A ONE DIRECTION CONCERT!”

I immediately got hyped up, but then my heart dropped as I realized that there was no chance for me to win, out of the millions of girls who will enter.

Eh, it doesn’t hurt to try, I thought, as I walked up to the table.

“Uh, hello. May I enter the contest?” I asked the people behind the table.

“No problem, love. Just fill out this survey and this form, and we’ll call you back tomorrow to see if you won,” replied a hot guy behind the table, as he winked at me.

I blushed and looked down, but said, “Oh, um, thanks… John,” looking at his name tag, as he handed me the papers and our fingers accidentally brushed each other. I blushed even more, as I gave him a smile and went to fill out the form.

After I finished the papers, I walked over to the table where a long line had formed, all consisting of teenage girls around my age. I handed my papers back to John, and he flashed me a dazzling smile showing off his pearly whites.

I turned around to leave, only to feel that someone had grabbed my arm. I turned around to look in the sparkling blue eyes of John.

“Hey, sweet, I didn’t catch your name,” he told me.

       “Jennifer,” I replied.

“Well, Jennifer, nice to meet you. May I have your number?” he asked, handing me his iPhone.

I froze for a second, going over the consequences. Andrew could kick me out of the house for dating someone else. Then I’ll have nowhere to live… Hm, maybe I’ll just not tell him, I thought, as I entered my number into his phone, grinning.

“See you later, love,” called John as I walked away from the table to go do some shopping.

“Bye,” I said, not really knowing what just happened. Did I a cute guy just ask me for my number? That hadn’t happened in years, ever since Andrew starting abusing me…

**********

After I finished shopping and buying dinner at the food court, it was past 11:00 p.m. I figured that it was safe to go home, and left to mall.

When I got home, I unlocked the door and went into the living room, where I found Tiffany and Andrew on the couch in a passionate make-out session. I tried to run away without being noticed, but no such luck.

Tiffany saw me and squealed, and they stopped kissing. Andrew got up slowly and stepped towards me, with Tiffany at his arm.

“What did I tell you about staying out of sight? Are you that stupid?” he said menacingly.

       “I-I thought th-that Tiffany l-left already…” I whimpered.

“You disturb me one more time when my girlfriend is over, you’re no longer welcome here,” he growled.

       “B-but where will I l-live? M-my parents and g-gone –“

I was silenced by a slap on my cheek, leaving it stinging, red, and raw. A single tear slipped out of my eye and dripped on the floor.

“You better be out of my house by noon tomorrow, or there will be trouble,” he said, dangerously softly, as he took Tiffany’s arm and dragged her to his room, slamming his door, leaving me standing there while tears dripped on the floor.
