"Hey, did you guys know someone moved into 402 the other day?" Todd sat up in the old orange beanbag, leaning towards the other two in the room.
"No? Really? Mom hasn't said anything about it." Larry shrugged, legs crossed over each other while he sat on his messy bed.
"Why would your mom bring it up, though? Maybe we should go say hi, invite them over for dinner." Chug suggested, leaning further back into the mattess behind him, the floor already torturing his spine.
"Yea... Yea, let's go check it out." Larry exclaimed, scooting to the edge of the bed to stand. The three of them slipped their shoes back onto their feet and began to walk through the small apartment.
"Hey, Lar-Bear, where ya headed off to?" Lisa interrupted the boys as they passed behind the couch. Larry startled slightly due to the sudden interaction.
"Jeez- Sorry mom, we're headed up to 402 to say hi." He explained, turning to face her.
"Oh, yea! A nice man and his son just moved in, he looked about your age. It would be nice of you to welcome them. Be back by 9 for dinner, though." She waved at the boys and they smiled, said their goodbyes, and headed to the elevator. Larry pressed the button for the fourth floor and waited impatiently as they climbed. The taller of the three began to shift on his heels, adjusting his stance to a more comfortable angle.
"I wonder what they're like? I mean, they have to be from out of town. No one would move into Addison knowing what happened in 403." Todd questioned, adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose.
"Yea... but hey, that was a long time ago. Nothing really weird has happened since then, right?" Larry shrugged it off, remembering his key role in that incident. He still couldn't get the image out of his mind, even after all these months. Of course, nobody knew he was hiding out in the bathroom during the crime, not even the cops. They never believed him even when he tried to tell them. Oh well, Charlie was gone anyways. He moved out a few weeks after that, but he left all of his weird ponies, which Larry found particularly strange considering he had killed over them.
"Yea. Rockfell is a perfectly normal place." Chug said in a monotone voice, completely unconvincing. The three boys fell silent as they reached the third floor. Chug leaned his weight onto one of the old bars on the wall. Once the elevator beeped and opened, indicating they had reached their destination, they walked off before the doors could close again. At some point, the safety sensor on the door had broken and caused panic every time someone would step off. Lisa had said it was too complicated for her to figure out and that she put a letter in Addison's box to tell him that he needed to call someone, but nobody ever came.
The sound of their shoes echoed through the empty hallway, only amplified by the silence of their voices. They finally reached the wooden door labeled "402" and Larry took the lead by politely knocking. They sat and waited a few seconds. A couple more seconds. Almost a minute passed before Larry knocked again. After another minute there still was no answer. Confused, Todd tried. He knocked a bit harder than Larry had, and a tad longer as well. Suddenly, the door swung open to reveal a small boy with bright blue pigtails.
"Can you stop?! My dad is asleep!" He whisper-shouted at the three before realizing who it was. He saw Chug, studied him for a bit before switching to Todd and doing the same. Once he reached Larry his entire attitude changed as he tried to correct his posture.
"U-Uhm, sorry, I just... He doesn't get much sleep, so I wanna make sure he stays that way once he does."
Larry chuckled softly and shrugged. "Its alright, little dude. We all got parents we care about. We understand. Uh... We just wanted to give you a welcome to Addison Apartments and tell you that you're welcome to hang with us."
"Actually, I need to get home. It's almost 8 and you know how my parents are." Todd shruged. Chug nodded and agreed.
"Yea, I do too man."
"Oh... Well, you're welcome to hang with me if you want. I don't have to be back until 9." Larry offered, silently hoping the boy took his offer.
"Uhm..." He looked over his shoulder at a door, Larry assumed it was his dads, and then back to Larry. Yet again, he saw the crinkle of skin beside beautiful blue eyes. "Sure, I'd like that."796 Words
